Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You identify the two years and report several relevant changes, including the addition of a public car park, the separation of staff parking, and the replacement of bus stops by a bus station. However, some locations are inaccurate or unclear: the public car park is east of Ring Road, not simply east of the hospital, and the bus station is west of Hospital Road. The 2010 roundabouts are at both ends of Hospital Road, but this is not made clear. The overview mainly says that facilities improved, rather than summarising the key structural changes. To strengthen the response, describe the road layout and compare the bus and parking arrangements precisely.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The response has a basic paragraph structure, moving from 2007 to 2010 and then giving an overall statement. This makes the two time periods identifiable. However, progression within the paragraphs is limited, and several points are repeated: the final paragraph restates the separation of public parking without adding a clear comparison. Connections between details are also weak, so the reader must infer how the roads, car parks and bus facilities relate spatially. Organise the report around the main changes—for example, road access, parking and public transport—and use clear linking phrases to compare the maps. A more focused overview would also help the response progress logically.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some relevant map vocabulary, including “roundabout,” “car park,” “bus station” and “seperated,” and the main topic is generally understandable. However, the range is limited and several noticeable spelling and word-choice errors reduce precision, such as “tow maps,” “significated change,” “cark park” and “minor facilities.” Phrases such as “front side” and “front right side” are also vague for describing map locations; compass directions would be more accurate. Aim to use standard terms consistently, such as “east of,” “west of” and “at the junction,” and check spelling and collocations. This would make the descriptions clearer and more appropriate for an academic map report.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The response relies mainly on short, simple sentences, with little variety in sentence structure. Errors occur frequently in verb forms, articles and agreement, as in “there were significated change taken place” and “The hospital look simple.” Tense use is also inconsistent: the maps describe past years, but the response shifts between “was,” “is” and “changes.” Some sentence boundaries and phrasing make relationships between ideas difficult to follow, for example, “In the front side of hospital there was a car park and bus stop.” Practise accurate past-tense descriptions and basic sentence patterns before adding more complex comparisons. Careful proofreading for articles and singular/plural agreement will improve clarity.
