Summarize the information by selecting and reporting the main features and make comparisons wherever relevant.
Student answer (Band 6.0)
The provided maps compare the pathway to city hospital in 2007 and 2010.
Overall, the connecting point of roads were replaced by roundabouts. The far away bus stop relocated along the hospital road and car parking is seprated for both staff and public.
In the initial year, the area featured as city hospital was at center of hospital and ring road. Hospital road was surrounded by trees and in east of the trees there was a car park for staff and public. City road connected the hospital road and others. At the eastern side of city hospital bys stop was located.
Turining towards 2010's map, City hospital remained at the same place however the empty area at east occupied by public car parking. A rounadout was introduced at the entrance of hospital. At west of hosiptal road bus station was relocated as well as at east another car parking for staff. The city road and hospital road was joined with a roundabout that also facilitated direct acces from hospital to bus station and city road to bus station without involving hosital road.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You identify the main changes: the junctions became roundabouts, the bus stops were replaced by a bus station, and parking was divided into staff and public facilities. The overview also notes that the hospital stayed in the same place. These points address the task and are generally grounded in the maps. However, some details are inaccurate or unclear: the 2007 bus stops were on both sides of Hospital Road, not just on the eastern side, and the public car park was newly added east of Ring Road rather than occupying an “empty area at east” without further explanation. The claim that the area was “surrounded by trees” is not supported by the map. More precise coverage of the bus station’s access and the new public car park would make the account more complete.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, an overview, and separate descriptions of the two years. Phrases such as “In the initial year” and “Turning towards 2010’s map” help signal the time sequence, and the main changes are presented in a broadly logical order. Some connections between details are less clear, however. For example, “City road connected the hospital road and others” is vague, while the final sentence combines several access changes in a way that is difficult to follow. The overview also compresses multiple changes into one sentence. To strengthen progression, group related changes—road layout, bus facilities, and parking—and use clearer references to each location.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use relevant map vocabulary, including “roundabouts,” “bus station,” “car parking,” “entrance,” and “east,” which allows you to describe the main features. There is also some attempt at more precise language, such as “direct access.” However, several word choices and collocations are inaccurate or awkward: “pathway to city hospital,” “connecting point of roads,” and “the area featured as city hospital” do not express the map features naturally. Spelling errors such as “seprated,” “Turining,” “rounadout,” and “acces” are noticeable and reduce clarity. Aim for standard map-description phrases such as “road junction,” “was located,” and “was converted into,” and check spelling carefully.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt a mixture of simple and more complex sentences, including clauses with “however” and “that,” and the reader can generally understand the comparison between the two maps. Some grammatical errors remain, particularly with articles, sentence construction, and verb forms. For example, “at center of hospital and ring road” needs clearer article use and a more accurate relationship, while “the empty area at east occupied by public car parking” is missing a finite verb. The sentence beginning “At west of hospital road…” also has an unclear structure, and “The city road and hospital road was joined” has a subject–verb agreement error. Use complete clauses and check articles, agreement, and punctuation when combining details.
