Student answer (Band 5.0)

the two maps provides a road access to a city in 2007 and 2010,let's dig the comment.

overall, the first map and the second did not show a large modification, the centre remain the same, the ring road surrounded the hospital for both remain the same, the hospital road for the first map was straight and the second in 2010 altered.

In 2007,the road to the hospital was quite direct, the car park on the east and the bus stop was a little bit related, the city road on the south remained direct.

In 2010,the ring road remained the same, the bus stop became the round about, and the hostipal road was built in another way,on the west along the road we have the bus station,on the east,we have the car park and the city road got an alter with a round about.

the first map showed an hospital which will be modified in the second map by adding a round about instead of a direct road,a part that the city hospital on the both maps remains the same.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You identify the main setting and several relevant changes: the hospital and Ring Road remain, the bus stops are replaced by a bus station, and roundabouts are added. This gives the response a generally relevant overview. However, some key details are unclear or inaccurate. The bus stops did not “become the round about”; they were removed, while roundabouts were added at the Ring Road and City Road junctions. You also omit the important change that the original shared car park became a staff car park and a separate public car park was added beside Ring Road. The overview that there was “not a large modification” understates the access changes. Select and describe these features more precisely.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5

The response has a basic paragraph structure, moving from an overview to descriptions of 2007 and 2010, and the time markers help distinguish the maps. However, progression is not consistently clear: the final paragraph repeats the claim that the hospital remains the same and introduces another summary rather than adding a distinct point. Linking is also mechanical, with repeated “In 2007” and “In 2010,” while phrases such as “the bus stop became the round about” make the relationship between features difficult to follow. Group the changes logically—for example, road layout, parking, and public transport—and use clear references to show what was removed, retained, or added.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some task-relevant vocabulary, including “Ring Road,” “car park,” “bus station,” and “round about,” so the reader can recognise the main subject. However, the range is limited and several choices are imprecise or informal, which sometimes obscures the map changes. “Dig the comment” is unsuitable for an IELTS map description, and “the bus stop became the round about” uses the wrong relationship between the features. “Altered” and “modification” are repeated without specifying what changed. Spelling errors such as “hostipal” also reduce accuracy. Aim for precise map language such as “was replaced by,” “was converted into,” “was added,” and “remained unchanged,” and check spelling and standard forms such as “roundabout.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The response attempts both simple and longer sentences, but grammatical errors are frequent and sometimes make relationships between ideas unclear. For example, “the two maps provides” has subject–verb disagreement, and “the centre remain the same” has an incorrect verb form. Articles and sentence construction are also problematic in “the first map showed an hospital which will be modified,” while the comma splices in “In 2010, the ring road remained the same, the bus stop…” join independent clauses without suitable punctuation. Capitalisation after full stops is inconsistent. Use shorter, complete sentences first, check subject–verb agreement and past-tense forms, and separate each map feature into a clear clause.
