Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
You identify the broad change over time and give an overview that the hospital stayed in the same area while access and parking changed. You also report the new public car park and a roundabout. However, the response only partially covers the maps: it omits the bus station replacing the individual bus stops, the staff-only designation of the existing car park, and the second roundabout at City Road. The 2007 bus stops are also misreported as a single stop to the east, rather than three on each side of Hospital Road. The response is 126 words, below the 150-word minimum, and this limits the detail available. Develop the key comparisons more fully and ensure each reported feature matches the maps.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a basic overall structure: an introduction, an overview, and separate descriptions of the two years. This gives the reader a general sense of the timeline, and phrases such as “In 2007” and “by the year 2010” help signal the shift. However, progression is limited because the 2010 paragraph ends abruptly and does not complete the comparison. “Whereas in by the year 2010” combines linking expressions awkwardly, while the overview’s claims are not followed by a full account of the changes. Use clearer paragraph development and connect related features—for example, explain how the bus station replaced the stops and how the car parks were reorganised.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use some relevant map vocabulary, including “road access,” “car parking,” “Ring Road,” and “roundabout,” so the topic is generally understandable. However, the range is limited and several choices or spelling errors reduce precision: “simple structure” is vague for describing the layout, and “a bus stop” does not accurately describe the multiple stops shown. Errors such as “containg,” “frem,” and “amde” are noticeable. Some phrases are also imprecise, including “south to the hospital in the Ring Road.” Aim for accurate location language and a wider set of verbs for map changes, such as “was converted,” “was replaced,” and “was constructed.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and more extended sentence forms, including a relative clause in “Hospital road which connects to city road further south.” However, control is inconsistent, and several sentences contain errors that make the relationships between features difficult to follow. For example, “Whereas in by the year 2010” has faulty construction, and “New roundabout was added south to the hospital in the Ring Road connecting Hospital road” lacks an article and has unclear sentence structure and prepositions. Punctuation is also unreliable, with missing spaces after commas and full stops. Practise building complete sentences with clear subjects and verbs, and check articles, prepositions, and sentence boundaries.
