Summarize the information by selecting and reporting the main features and make comparisons wherever relevant.

Student answer (Band 5.5)

The two maps illustrates the road access to a city hospital in 2007 and after its redevelopment in 2010.

Overall, the road acess to a city hospital was improved over a period of time. It underwent several significant changes by the inclusion of a public car park and replacement of six bus stops by a large bus station. A seperate staff car park was built near the hospital road. A roundabout was also developed near the city road. However, ring road remained unaltered.

In 2007, a ring road was located in the north side of a hospital. There are six bus stops covering the hospital road. There was a shared parking for the staff and the public. City road was present on the east-south region.

In 2019, the city hospital was present in the north linked to the ring road. A seperate public car park was developed on the right side of a hospital. Six bus stops were replaced by a bus station and was established on the west side of a hospital road. A city road remained unchanged and a roundabout was added nearby.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You identify the main redevelopment clearly: the shared parking became staff-only, a public car park was added, and the bus stops were replaced by a bus station. However, the account is only partially accurate and developed. The maps show changes in 2010, but the final paragraph says “In 2019,” and the roundabouts were added at both the Ring Road and City Road junctions, not just near City Road. The bus station is west of Hospital Road, while the new public car park is east of the Ring Road; these locations need clearer reporting. Your overview also says the Ring Road was unaltered, but omits the two roundabouts and the bus-stop removal as distinct changes. Include these key comparisons precisely.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, an overview and separate paragraphs for the two years. This gives the reader a basic route through the information. However, progression is limited because the 2007 and 2010 details are mostly listed rather than connected through direct comparisons. For example, the shared car park in the 2007 paragraph could be linked immediately to its later staff-only designation. Some references are also unclear: “a roundabout was also developed near the city road” does not specify the second roundabout at the Ring Road junction. Use clearer sequencing and comparison signals such as “by 2010” and “whereas,” and group related changes together to make the account easier to follow.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use relevant map vocabulary, including “bus stops,” “bus station,” “staff car park,” “public car park” and “roundabout,” so the reader can understand the main features. There is some variety in how changes are described, such as “replacement” and “was developed.” However, the range is limited and several word choices or spellings reduce precision: “road acess,” “seperate,” and “covering the hospital road” are inaccurate or unnatural. “East-south region” is also an unclear way to describe the location of City Road. Aim for standard map language such as “to the south of,” “along,” and “was converted into,” and check spelling carefully.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt a few different sentence forms, including an overview with several linked changes and past-tense descriptions. Nevertheless, errors occur frequently and sometimes make relationships between features difficult to follow. The opening has a subject–verb agreement error: “The two maps illustrates” should be “The two maps illustrate.” In “Six bus stops were replaced by a bus station and was established,” the verb structure is faulty; write “The six bus stops were replaced by a bus station, which was established…” The phrase “In 2007, a ring road was located in the north side” also needs a more accurate grammatical construction, such as “The Ring Road ran along the north side.” Check articles, prepositions and agreement, and use complete, controlled sentences.
