Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5
You identify the two years and attempt an overview, noting that the hospital and Ring Road stayed unchanged. However, the response addresses the map changes only partially: it incorrectly says the bus station moved from the northeast to the southwest, whereas the 2007 map shows individual bus stops and the 2010 map shows a bus station west of Hospital Road. The key changes—roundabouts, removal of the bus stops, and the separation of staff and public parking—are either omitted or left unfinished. The final sentence cuts off after “divided t,” so the comparison is incomplete. The response is also 29 words below the required minimum. To improve, report the main changes accurately and complete the comparison of parking and access routes.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
There is a basic attempt to organise the response with an opening, an overview, and detail paragraphs, and phrases such as “Overall” and “Looking at the maps in more detail” signal the intended structure. However, the progression is difficult to follow because the details are sparse, the bus-station comparison is inaccurate, and the final paragraph ends mid-sentence. The transition “turningto the the maps once again in detail” is repetitive and does not clearly introduce a new feature. Develop a clear sequence—for example, first describe the road layout and roundabouts, then explain the changes to bus facilities and car parks. Use linking phrases accurately and ensure each paragraph contains a complete, connected point.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The response uses some relevant map vocabulary, including “road access,” “ring road,” “bus station,” and “car park,” so the topic is generally recognisable. However, the range is limited and several spelling or word-form errors make the writing less clear, such as “palce,” “noticeble,” and “relocted.” Some phrasing is also imprecise: “different staff and car park relocated” does not clearly describe the distinction between the staff and public car parks, and “great changes” is not a natural choice here. Aim for precise terms such as “was converted into,” “was added,” and “was designated for staff.” Proofread spelling and use the map labels consistently to avoid confusing bus stops with a bus station.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt a few longer sentence forms, including “Overall, it is noticeable that…” and “Looking at the maps in more detail, it is clear that…”. However, grammatical errors are frequent and sometimes make relationships between features unclear. For example, “The two map visualize” has a plural agreement error, while “the city hospital and ring road has remained” uses a singular verb with a compound subject. Articles and sentence construction also need attention in “the south side city road has remained same.” The final clause, “the public car park and staff car park divided t,” is incomplete and has no clear verb structure. Practise accurate plural forms, subject–verb agreement, and complete sentences, then check punctuation and capitalisation.
