Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You identify the main areas of change: the parking arrangement, bus facilities and the addition of roundabouts, and you note that the hospital and Ring Road remain unchanged. However, some details are unclear or inaccurate. The 2007 bus stops were on both sides of Hospital Road, not simply in the south-east, and in 2010 they were replaced by a bus station to the west of the road. The roundabouts were at the Ring Road and City Road junctions, rather than in the centre of City Road or connected to the hospital and staff car park. The response is also 146 words, below the 150-word minimum; the 10 words copied from the prompt are excluded. Add a clearer overview and report the locations precisely.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The response has a basic structure, with an opening, an overview and paragraphs describing changes, so the reader can identify the broad topic. However, progression within the paragraphs is difficult to follow, especially in the final sentence, which combines the bus-stop change and both roundabouts in one long sequence. Linking expressions such as “Overall,” “Additionally” and “now” are attempted, but punctuation and phrasing make the relationships between ideas unclear. For example, the parking comparison would be easier to follow if the 2007 arrangement were described first and then contrasted with 2010. Use separate sentences for each major change, and group related details consistently.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some relevant task vocabulary, including “Ring Road,” “car parking,” “staff” and “roundabout,” which helps communicate the subject. However, the range is limited and several word choices or forms make the description hard to understand, such as “extra things,” “distributed in two parts” and “transfer.” Spelling errors, including “distrubuted” and “Additionaly,” also reduce clarity. Aim for precise map-description language and accurate collocations: for example, say that bus stops were “replaced by a bus station,” and that parking was “divided into separate staff and public car parks.” Check spelling and avoid vague expressions when a specific feature can be named.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt to connect ideas in longer sentences, but these structures are often faulty, and errors frequently make the relationships between features difficult to interpret. Examples include “the main changes … where some extra things are adding” and “the hospital are remain unchanged,” where verb forms and agreement are not controlled. Articles, prepositions and sentence boundaries also need attention; for instance, “in year, 2007” and the run-on final sentence make the description less clear. Most sentences would benefit from a simpler, accurate structure before you attempt more complex comparisons. Practise past-tense forms for 2007 and 2010 descriptions, and use full stops to separate distinct changes.
