Summarize the information by selecting and reporting the main features and make comparisons wherever relevant.

Student answer (Band 5.5)

The provided maps illustrate the road access to a city hospital in 2007 and 2010.

Overall, significant changes had made accross the hospital road. Although there was no separate public car park area prevoiusly but later-on it was constructed along the ring road.

In 2007, there was a bus stop which was quite far from ring road and direct access on the east of map. On the south of map, there was a collective car parking on both sides of Hospital road for public and staff. Besides that there was a city road.

In 2010, city hospoital map went through dramatic changes. Separated car parking for staff and public with direct access from ring road which provided an ease. Roundabouts were added along hospital, in-addition bus station is added on the south west of the map. Moreover, bus stop was replaced with another roundabout on the south east of map.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You identify the two time periods and give an overview that the layout changed, including the addition of a public car park. You also mention the staff/public parking distinction, roundabouts and the bus station. However, several details are inaccurate or unclear: in 2007 there were multiple bus stops on both sides of Hospital Road, not one stop, and the shared car park was east of the road rather than on both sides. In 2010, the bus station was west of Hospital Road, but the bus stops were removed; they were not replaced by a roundabout on the south-east. The response also contains 140 words, below the required 150, so the description is underdeveloped. Include the key changes accurately and explain the road connections more clearly.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, an overview, and separate paragraphs for 2007 and 2010. This helps the reader follow the time comparison. However, progression within the paragraphs is limited, and some details are difficult to connect because the locations are described imprecisely—for example, “direct access on the east of map” and “on the south west of the map.” Linking phrases such as “Besides that,” “In addition,” and “Moreover” are used, but they sometimes join details without clarifying their relationship. Organise each year’s features in a consistent route-based order, and use clearer references to Hospital Road, Ring Road, and City Road to make the comparisons easier to follow.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use some relevant map vocabulary, including “road access,” “car parking,” “Ring Road,” “roundabouts,” and “bus station,” and you attempt more descriptive wording such as “dramatic changes.” However, the range is limited and several choices are inaccurate or unnatural, including “collective car parking,” “direct access on the east,” and “along the hospital road.” Spelling errors such as “accross,” “prevoiusly,” and “hospoital” are noticeable and reduce precision. Aim for standard map-description phrases such as “a shared car park,” “to the east of Hospital Road,” and “was converted into.” Accurate spelling and location language will make your account clearer and more appropriate for this task.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more complex forms, including the contrast in “Although there was no separate public car park area previously…” and the time-based opening “In 2007… In 2010…”. However, errors are frequent, and some sentence structures are incomplete or difficult to interpret. For example, “Separated car parking for staff and public with direct access…” has no main verb, while “Roundabouts were added along hospital” lacks a clear grammatical complement. There are also problems with articles and agreement, as in “a bus stop” for multiple stops and “bus station is added.” Use complete sentences with a clear subject and verb, and check tense consistency when describing past changes: for example, “A bus station was built west of Hospital Road.”
