Summarize the information by selecting and reporting the main features and make comparisons wherever relevant.

Student answer (Band 5.0)

There are two maps in figure. They are showing the roadmap towards city hospital and area around the hospital in 2007 and 2010. Highlighting, the changes which are done in 3 years. First of all, in 2007, there is a road known as ring road. The road is surronding the hospital from 4 sides and froming a loop or circle therefore it is known as ring road. Hospital road is connected to city road. There is two paths from ring road, one leading to hospital road and other toward car park which is for both staff and public. In 2010, there were made some changes in the surrondings of hospital, where as, there were some changes in the ringroad. Now, there is three path leading to public car park, staff car park and hospital road. There is now a roundabout which leads toward bus station. Bus station is also connected to roundabout build at city road. The improvement done in 2010 were more good as it has different areas for car parking of staff, public and buses. It would definetily reduce inconvinece and increase displine. Also it is time convinent.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You identify the maps’ time periods and report several relevant changes, including the separation of staff and public parking and the addition of a bus station and roundabouts. However, the account is only partly accurate and the main changes are not consistently clear. For example, the 2007 ring road is described as surrounding the hospital “from 4 sides,” whereas the map shows it on the north, west and east; in 2010, the public car park is accessed from Ring Road, not by one of three paths from Hospital Road. The overview is also mixed with an unsupported opinion that the changes will improve convenience and discipline. Focus on a concise overview of the key transformations, then describe the locations and connections precisely.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The response follows a basic chronological order, moving from 2007 to 2010, and uses signposts such as “First of all” and “In 2010” to distinguish the maps. However, the progression within each period is not always easy to follow, and the response lacks clear paragraphing to separate an overview from the detailed comparisons. Some linking is awkward or repetitive, particularly “where as” and the repeated use of “There is.” The final comments about convenience and discipline interrupt the map description rather than completing a factual summary. Organise the response into an introduction, a brief overview, and one or two paragraphs comparing the road and transport changes; use references such as “the former car park” only when their meaning is clear.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some relevant map vocabulary, including “ring road,” “car park,” “roundabout,” and “bus station,” so the reader can identify the main features. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate or informal, such as “roadmap towards,” “paths,” and “more good.” Spelling errors—including “surronding,” “definetily,” and “inconvinece”—also reduce control and can distract the reader. The phrase “increase displine” is unclear in this context and is not an appropriate description of a map change. Build a more precise set of terms for describing access and location, such as “access road,” “situated to the west of,” and “directly connected to,” and check spelling carefully.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response attempts some longer sentence structures, for example, “The road is surronding the hospital from 4 sides and froming a loop or circle,” but control is limited and errors occur frequently. There are problems with agreement and verb forms in “There is two paths” and “there were made some changes,” as well as article use and sentence construction in “There is now a roundabout which leads toward bus station.” Tense shifts between “there is,” “were,” and “is” also make the timeline less consistent. Several sentences are fragments or awkwardly punctuated, including “Highlighting, the changes which are done in 3 years.” Practise accurate simple past descriptions first, then combine them with controlled clauses using “while” or “whereas.”
