Student answer (Band 5.0)
The two maps below illustrate road access to a urban hospital in 2007 and 2010 in which there is layout of city hospital in both years.
Overall the map is showing the feachures of hospital and their roads, In one side there is a layout of hospital in 2007 and in other side there is hospital in 2010.
In 2007 city hospital was covered by the ring road and the car parking for staff and public was on the both sides of front road which is going towards the hospital and the bus stop was on east side of hospital.
While, On the other hand in 2010 many changes was happened in city hospital map, Public car parking was build on east side of hospital and two round about were made on hospital road. Therefore, the bus station was made in front west side of hospital that was exactly on the opposite side of staff car park across the road.
To conclude that, there was many good changes happened in 2017 in hospital layout as compaired to three years before.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
You identify the two years and mention several relevant changes, including the new public car park, the roundabouts and the bus station. However, the account only partially reports the map information, and the overview is vague: “the map is showing the feachures” does not summarise the main changes. Some details are inaccurate. In 2007, the shared car park was east of Hospital Road, not on both sides, and bus stops were on both sides of the road, not only east of the hospital. The 2010 public car park was east of Ring Road, rather than simply east of the hospital. The conclusion also says 2017 instead of 2010 and calls the changes “good,” which is an unsupported judgement. Give a precise overview and compare the road and transport arrangements accurately.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has separate paragraphs and a broadly chronological structure, moving from an introduction to 2007, then 2010, and a conclusion. This gives the reader some organisation. However, progression is limited because the overview repeats the general idea that the maps show hospital features rather than identifying the main transformation. Linking phrases are sometimes mechanical or awkward: “While, On the other hand” combines two contrasting devices, and “To conclude that” does not form a natural transition. The comparison between years could be clearer if related changes were grouped together—for example, the removal of bus stops and addition of a bus station, followed by the changes to car parks and road junctions. Use simpler, accurate transitions and clearer references.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some relevant map vocabulary, including “Ring Road,” “car parking,” “bus station” and “round about,” so the topic is generally recognisable. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate or repetitive. “The map is showing the feachures” is vague, while “many good changes happened” is informal and evaluative rather than descriptive. “Car parking” is less precise here than “car park,” and “covered by the ring road” does not clearly describe the hospital’s position within the road layout. Spelling errors such as “feachures” and “compaired” also reduce accuracy. Aim for precise location and change vocabulary, such as “situated,” “relocated,” “converted” and “replaced,” and avoid judging whether changes are good.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and longer sentences, including a contrast between the two years, but control is inconsistent. Errors in agreement and verb forms occur in phrases such as “many changes was happened” and “there was many good changes.” Articles and prepositions are also problematic: “a urban hospital” should use the appropriate article, and “on the both sides” is not a correct construction. Capitalisation and punctuation are uneven, as in “While, On the other hand,” and several sentences are joined or framed awkwardly. These errors sometimes make the relationships between features harder to follow. Practise accurate past-tense descriptions and subject–verb agreement, then build longer sentences around one clear comparison at a time.
