Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
You identify the two years and note some genuine changes, including the separation of the parking areas and the addition of a bus facility. However, the response only partially reports the maps’ main features: it does not explain the two roundabouts, the new public car park’s position and access from Ring Road, or the removal of the individual bus stops. Some details are inaccurate or unclear: the bus station was not present in 2007, so saying it was “far apart” then is unsupported, and the 2010 map shows a bus station rather than a bus stop. The claim that the second layout is “more reliable” is an opinion, not a map feature. Give a clear overview and describe the changes precisely.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0
The response follows a basic chronological comparison, moving from the first map to the second, and uses linking expressions such as “in the first scenario,” “in the second map,” and “Although.” However, ideas are crowded into one paragraph, and the progression is difficult to follow because several comparisons are repeated or loosely connected. For example, the comments about the bus station being a reference point, the first map being simple, and the second being more reliable do not form a clear sequence of map features. Some transitions also create confusing relationships, particularly “Although” before a statement that does not clearly contrast with the preceding point. Organise the response into an overview and focused paragraphs on road access and facilities.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some relevant vocabulary, including “parking area,” “bus station,” “hospital road,” “renovation,” and “separated,” so the reader can identify the general subject. However, the range is limited and several choices are inaccurate or unnatural for describing maps. “The parking area are given combined” is unclear, while “new sites has been added” does not specify the facilities shown. “More reliable” is not an appropriate description of a road layout, and “reference point” adds an interpretation rather than reporting the map. Use precise location and change vocabulary, such as “to the east of,” “was replaced by,” “was converted into,” and “direct access from Ring Road.” Check spelling and word forms, including “scenario,” “passengers,” and “second one.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response attempts some longer structures, including “Although the first map is so simple and easy to reach…” and comparisons between the two years. However, sentence control is inconsistent, and frequent errors sometimes make relationships unclear. Examples include “The given map is showing,” “there is alot of changes occur,” “the parking area are,” and “new sites has been added”; these show problems with tense, agreement, and verb forms. Several sentences also run together without appropriate full stops, as in the opening, and capitalisation after sentence boundaries is inconsistent. Aim for clear past-tense descriptions of the changes, with one main idea per sentence, and check subject–verb agreement, articles, and punctuation.
