The two maps below show road access to a city hospital in 2007 and 2010.
Summarize the information by selecting and reporting the main features and make comparisons wherever relevant.
Student answer (Band 5.0)
The bellow is a map of the city hospital for thhe year of 2007 and 2010. In the year 2007 it is evident that the hospital had a much greater space the ring road around the hospital was also not takin up space if comapred to thhe 2010 map where the round about takes up some part of the city hospital. Preveiously there were bus stops on both the eastern and the western side but now there is a bus station that helps both the public and the hospital staff to commute easily, in the eastern side there was a car park for both the staff and the public but if compared to 2010 there is a seperate staff parking and a seperate public parking which allows more saff memebrs to buys cars. The city road in the southern side during the year of 2007 was just a straigh road but now in 2010 there is also a roundabout that connects the hospital road. Overall there has been a significant development in the map of the city hospital

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You identify several important changes, including the replacement of the bus stops by a bus station, the separation of staff and public parking, and the addition of roundabouts at both ends of Hospital Road. The final sentence also gives a general overview of development. However, some details are inaccurate or unclear: the roundabouts are at the junctions with Ring Road and City Road, not taking up space within the hospital, and the bus station’s access arrangements are not explained. The claim that the changes allow more staff members to buy cars is unsupported by the maps. To make the report more complete and precise, describe the new public car park east of Ring Road and distinguish the changes to the road layout from those to parking and bus facilities.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response follows a broadly chronological comparison, moving from 2007 to 2010, and uses linking expressions such as “Previously,” “but now,” and “Overall.” These help the reader recognise that changes are being discussed. However, the information is presented as one long paragraph with several ideas joined into extended sentences, so the progression is not always clear. The opening and overview are not clearly separated from the detailed comparisons, and some references, such as “it” and “there,” are vague. Organise the report into a short introduction, an overview of the main changes, and a paragraph comparing transport access and parking. Use connectors selectively and make each sentence focus on one or two related features.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use relevant map vocabulary, including “ring road,” “bus stops,” “car park,” “eastern,” “western,” and “roundabout,” which allows the main changes to be understood. However, the range is limited and some choices are imprecise or informal for an academic map report. For example, “takes up some part of the city hospital” misdescribes the roundabouts’ location, while “commute easily” and “buys cars” add unsupported interpretation rather than describing the map. There are also noticeable spelling errors, including “bellow,” “thhe,” “takin,” and “seperate.” Aim for precise terms such as “junction,” “access,” and “designated,” and check spelling carefully before submitting.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt to combine ideas using clauses and comparisons, as in “if compared to the 2010 map,” but complex sentences are often difficult to follow because several clauses are joined without clear punctuation. The opening, “The bellow is a map,” has an incorrect sentence structure, and the long sentence beginning “Preveiously there were bus stops” contains multiple ideas that would be clearer as separate sentences. Tense and article use are also inconsistent, for example “during the year of 2007 was just a straigh road.” Use straightforward past-tense sentences to describe each map, and check sentence boundaries, articles, and verb forms. Greater control of these basics would make your comparisons easier to understand.
