Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You identify the main changes: the shared car park became separate staff and public facilities, the bus stops were replaced by a bus station, and two roundabouts were added. The overview also recognises the broad reorganisation of access, so the response addresses the task and includes relevant comparisons. However, some details are unclear or inaccurate. The public car park was not simply shifted to the eastern side of the hospital; it was newly provided east of the Ring Road, while the existing car park became staff-only. The claim that the eastern bus stops were replaced by staff parking is not supported by the map. The roundabouts are at the Ring Road–Hospital Road and City Road–Hospital Road junctions, rather than one directly in front of the hospital. Clarifying these locations and describing the bus station’s connections more precisely would make the account more complete.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, an overview, and paragraphs covering parking and road or bus changes. This gives the reader a basic route through the information. However, progression within paragraphs is sometimes difficult to follow, and several points are repeated. For example, the two roundabouts are described in the overview and then repeated in the final paragraph, while the parking paragraph combines the new public car park, the retained staff car park, and bus-stop changes without a clear sequence. Linking expressions such as “In terms of” and “Another major changes” signal sections, but some connections are awkward or unclear. Organise the details by comparing 2007 with 2010, and use clear references to distinguish the two roundabouts and car parks.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use relevant map vocabulary, including “car parking,” “bus station,” “roundabout,” and “connection,” and you attempt to describe change with phrases such as “replaced by” and “remains its previous location.” This provides a workable range for the task, but inaccurate word forms, spelling, and collocations are noticeable and sometimes make details harder to understand. Examples include “bus stopage,” “sideways,” “shifted,” and “infornt”; “sideways” does not clearly convey the roads connecting the bus station. “Parking space” is also repeated where more precise labels would help. Use the map’s terms consistently—“bus stops,” “staff car park,” and “public car park”—and choose verbs such as “was converted into” or “was added” to describe the changes accurately.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and more extended sentence forms, including an overview with two linked changes and a sentence beginning “In terms of parking space.” However, grammatical control is uneven, and errors in agreement, articles, plurals, and sentence boundaries sometimes make the relationships between features unclear. For example, “The two maps illustrates” should use a plural verb, while “Two roundabout added” needs a plural noun and a passive verb form. The sentence beginning “Overall” also joins ideas with a comma rather than a clear sentence boundary. In “staff parking area remains its previous location,” the verb pattern is incomplete. Practise accurate passive constructions for map changes, such as “Two roundabouts were added,” and check agreement and punctuation when editing.
