Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You identify the main kinds of change: the bus stops were replaced by a bus station, the shared car park became staff-only, and a public car park was added. You also note that the Ring Road remained largely unchanged. However, several details are unclear or inaccurate: the new public car park is on the east side of the Ring Road, not simply east of the hospital, and the roundabouts are at the Hospital Road junctions with both the Ring Road and City Road. The overview mentions these changes but does not clearly compare the two layouts, and the final description of the roads is difficult to interpret. Select the key changes accurately and explain their locations more clearly.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has an opening, an overview and two detail paragraphs, so there is an attempt to organise the information. The overview also gives the reader a useful sense that the layout changed while the Ring Road stayed the same. However, progression within the detail paragraphs is weak: the third paragraph combines the car parks and road access, while the final paragraph moves between roundabouts, bus facilities and the City Road without a clear sequence. Linking words such as “Furthermore” and “whereas” are used, but they do not always show the relationship between ideas accurately. Organise the comparison by describing the 2007 layout first and then the main 2010 changes, using clear references to each location.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some relevant map vocabulary, including “roundabouts,” “Ring Road,” “Bus station” and “public facilities,” and you attempt to describe change with phrases such as “replaced” and “remained unchanged.” However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations make the meaning difficult to follow. For example, “public car park was designed” does not clearly convey that it was added, and “hospital structure extended by made things” is not an effective description of the changes. There are also spelling errors, including “Staf” and “Horizonntal,” and informal wording such as “alot.” Use precise verbs for map changes and check spelling, especially for key labels and locations.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, including a contrast with “whereas” and a sequence joined by “and.” However, many sentences contain errors that make the relationships between features hard to understand. Examples include “within a three years,” “City Hospital having,” and “Bus stops were replaced by Bus station and connect with roundabouts,” where articles, verb forms and sentence structure are not controlled. Tense and agreement are also inconsistent, as in “the City Hospital having a ring road that remained unchange.” Practise writing short, complete sentences in the past tense to describe each map, then combine related details with accurate clauses. This will make your comparisons clearer.
