Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5
You identify the two years and mention several relevant features, including the hospital, Hospital Road, parking and the bus facilities. However, the account does not give a clear, accurate overview of the main changes. In 2010, the bus stops were replaced by a bus station, the existing car park became staff-only, and a separate public car park was added beside Ring Road. These changes are either omitted or misreported: you say the public car park is “in center city hospital,” and describe the 2007 roads as coming from the east and west, rather than explaining the road layout shown. Focus on the key before-and-after changes and describe locations precisely; this would make the response more complete and better grounded in the maps.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a basic structure, with an opening sentence followed by sections introduced by “First of all” and “Secondly.” This helps distinguish the two years, and the reader can identify some of the features being described. However, the progression within each section is difficult to follow: roads, parking, bus stops and the hospital are mentioned in a sequence without clear relationships or a consistent route through the map. Some linking expressions, such as “Although” and “Moreover,” do not clearly show the relationship between the ideas that follow. Organise the description into a clear overview and then one paragraph for each map, grouping connected features and using precise references such as “to the east of Hospital Road.”
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some task-relevant vocabulary, including “road access,” “roundabout,” “bus station” and “car parking,” so the reader can recognise the general subject. However, the range is limited and several phrases are inaccurate or unclear, such as “road access of hospital,” “first road is come from right” and “ring road path.” These choices make it harder to understand the layout and relationships between features. Aim for standard map-description language and accurate location phrases, such as “Hospital Road runs south from Ring Road” or “the car park is located east of the road.” Check collocations and word forms as well as spelling, including “hospital,” which is misspelled once as “hosipal.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
The response attempts to describe both maps using simple statements and some longer constructions, but grammatical errors are frequent and sometimes obscure the intended meaning. Examples include “road access … is that first road is come” and “These all road is linked,” where verb forms and subject–verb agreement are not controlled. Articles and plurals are also problematic in phrases such as “a bus stop is located” when describing several stops. The sentence beginning “Although in left side” is incomplete, and tense use shifts between the years. Practise forming clear present-tense descriptions of map features, with a subject and verb in each sentence, and use past tense only when describing what changed between 2007 and 2010.
