Student answer (Band 5.0)
These 2 maps compares the road access to a city hospital in 2007 and 2010. These show the development of the whole area surrounding city hospital.
Overall, there is bus station which is replaced by bus stations and two roundabouts which are newly introduced.
City road is at same location in the souteast direction. In east direction of city hospital there is a public car park which is newly introduced in 2010 . On the sides of hospital road there were 6 bus stops which are replaced by seperate bus station and staff car park. There are 2 roundabouts in the south direction of city hspital while in 2007 there was a straight road.
In the east direction of Hospital road combined car park is repalced by just staff car park. And the bus station in the south of Hospital road is connected with both roundabouts. As in 2007 ring road is still connected with car park.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
You identify several important changes, including the new roundabouts, the separation of the car parks and the replacement of roadside bus stops by a bus station. However, the overview is unclear and contains a major reversal: it says a bus station was “replaced by bus stations,” whereas the six bus stops were replaced by one bus station. Some details are also inaccurate or confusing. The public car park is east of the Ring Road, not simply east of the hospital, and the bus station is west of Hospital Road, not south of it. The response contains 147 words, below the required 150; the 10 words copied from the prompt are excluded. Select the main changes accurately and explain them more clearly.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response has an opening, an attempted overview and further details, so there is some organisation. However, the progression is difficult to follow because related changes are repeated or placed in unclear relationships. For example, the overview says the bus station is “replaced by bus stations,” while a later sentence says six bus stops were replaced by a separate bus station. The final sentence, “As in 2007 ring road is still connected with car park,” is also hard to interpret and does not clearly connect to the preceding point. Use a clear overview followed by one paragraph comparing the road and bus changes and another covering the car parks. More precise linking and referencing would make the account easier to follow.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use relevant map vocabulary such as “roundabouts,” “car park,” “bus stops” and “connected,” which allows the reader to recognise the main features. However, the range is limited and some word choices or combinations are inaccurate, reducing precision. “Bus stations” incorrectly describes the 2007 features, which were bus stops, and “in the south direction of city hospital” is an awkward way to locate the roundabouts. There are also noticeable spelling errors, including “souteast,” “seperate,” “hspital” and “repalced.” Use accurate labels from the map and practise spelling key location and transport terms. More precise phrases such as “to the east of” and “on either side of” would improve clarity.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response attempts both simple and longer sentence forms, but grammatical errors are frequent and sometimes make relationships between features unclear. The opening has a subject–verb agreement error: “These 2 maps compares” should be “These two maps compare.” Articles and sentence structure are also problematic in “there is bus station,” while “On the sides of hospital road there were 6 bus stops which are replaced” shifts awkwardly between past and present forms. Several sentences lack clear punctuation or a complete grammatical structure, particularly the final sentence beginning “As in 2007.” Use consistent past-tense descriptions for the 2007 map and present-tense descriptions for 2010, and check agreement, articles and sentence boundaries.
