Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5
You identify the maps’ subject and make a basic comparison between 2007 and 2010, including the continued presence of Ring Road and City Road and the addition of a bus station. However, several key details are inaccurate or unclear: the hospital did not change location, and the public car park was added beside Ring Road, not simply on the right side of the hospital. The overview that the bus stops were on the right also misses their arrangement on both sides of Hospital Road in 2007 and their replacement by a bus station. The response is 145 words, below the required 150. Include the roundabouts and explain the main changes more precisely to report the maps more fully.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, an overview, and paragraphs describing the two years. Time markers such as “In 2007” and “After the year of 2010” help signal the comparison. However, progression is weakened by unclear references and abrupt statements. For example, “After that it was changed and built the new areas” does not specify what changed, while “car parking for staff and public was replaced” leaves the reader unsure what replaced it. The overview also combines several locations without clearly distinguishing the hospital, roads, and bus facilities. Organise the changes around the main features—roads, parking, and bus access—and use clearer links between them.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use relevant map vocabulary, including “Ring Road,” “City Road,” “car parking,” and “bus station,” so the topic is generally understandable. However, the range is limited and several phrases are imprecise or unnatural, such as “bus stop was showed,” “staff park their car in hospital road,” and “public parking found the right side.” These choices sometimes make the locations or changes difficult to interpret. Use precise terms for map features and their positions, and avoid describing a car park as being “in” a road. Repeating “located” and “situated” also limits variety; verbs such as “remained,” “was converted,” or “was added” can describe changes more accurately.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response includes simple sentences and some attempts to link clauses, for example, “Ring road was located in north side …, while car parking … was situated…”. However, the range is limited, and errors occur frequently enough to affect clarity. Examples include missing articles in “in north side” and “in center,” subject–verb agreement in “bus stop situated,” and tense or passive-form problems in “Bus stop was showed.” Capitalisation is also inconsistent, as in “car parking” after a full stop. Practise accurate past-tense descriptions and passive constructions, and check articles and sentence boundaries. Clearer grammatical patterns will help express the map changes without ambiguity.
