Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You identify the main changes, including the separation of staff and public parking, the addition of a bus station, and the two roundabouts. However, some details are inaccurate or unclear: the public car park is east of Ring Road, not simply east of the hospital, and the bus stops were removed rather than converted into a bus station. The station is west of Hospital Road, with access to both roundabouts. The overview also says Ring Road was unchanged, but does not clearly summarise the key changes to access. The response is one word below the 150-word minimum; the 10 words copied from the prompt are excluded. Add accurate location details and a fuller overview.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has an introduction, an overview, and a final paragraph, and it generally moves from the earlier layout to the later one. This gives the reader a basic structure. However, the final paragraph begins “In contrast” without a clear contrast, and repeats the bus-stop and bus-station information already mentioned in the overview. Some references, such as “their” and “its new location,” are unclear, while the long overview combines several changes in a way that makes their relationships difficult to follow. Organise the body by feature—for example, road access, parking, and bus facilities—and use clear references and linking phrases to show what changed.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use relevant task vocabulary such as “car parking area,” “bus station,” “roundabout,” and “Ring Road,” so the reader can recognise the main features. There is also some attempt to describe change through phrases such as “remained unchanged” and “was replaced.” However, several expressions are inaccurate or awkward, including “major changed occurred,” “two round off,” and “new implementation.” “Installed” is also not a natural choice for describing a car park on a map. These choices sometimes make the intended meaning less precise. Build a more reliable set of map-description collocations, such as “was converted into,” “was added,” and “was located to the east of.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, including a contrast with “Whereas” and a time comparison between 2007 and 2010. However, errors are frequent and sometimes make relationships between ideas difficult to follow. For example, “The two maps illustrates” has subject–verb disagreement, while “their was a major changed occurred” contains problems with the verb construction and tense. In “public car parking area was separated,” the article is missing, and “The two round off is also and new implementation” is not grammatically complete. Practise accurate past-tense descriptions and sentence patterns such as “A new public car park was built…” and “The bus stops were removed and replaced by a bus station.”
