Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You identify the two years and recognise that the hospital access arrangements changed, including the division of parking and the replacement of bus stops by a bus station. However, several details are inaccurate or unclear: the 2007 car park was east of Hospital Road, not on its north-west side, and the bus stops were positioned on both sides of that road rather than simply in the north-east or south-east. In 2010, the roundabouts were at the intersections of Hospital Road with Ring Road and City Road; they did not replace a bus stop. The overview also misses key changes, especially the new public car park east of Ring Road and the bus station west of Hospital Road. Select and describe these features more precisely.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response has a basic overall shape: an opening, an attempted overview, and separate descriptions of the two years. This gives the reader some sense of comparison. However, progression is difficult to follow because details are grouped inconsistently and some relationships are unclear. For example, the 2007 paragraph combines the car park, bus stops and road access in one long sequence, while the 2010 paragraph moves between parking, roundabouts and a 2007 bus stop. Linking phrases such as “On the other hand” and “Moreover” do not always show the relationship between the information. Use one paragraph for the overview and one for each map, and describe locations in a consistent order, such as north to south.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some task-relevant vocabulary, including “car park,” “roundabout,” “access” and “developed,” and you attempt to describe change. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations make the map details hard to understand. Phrases such as “availability to a city hospital,” “had been undergone substantial redeveloped,” and “car park converted in to two portion” are not natural or precise. There are also spelling and word-form errors, including “marge” and “whic.” Use standard map language such as “road layout,” “was redeveloped,” “was divided into two car parks,” and “located to the east of.” Accurate location vocabulary will make your comparisons clearer.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, but control is inconsistent, and errors often make relationships between features difficult to interpret. For example, “The two maps illustrate showed” combines incompatible verb forms, while “city hospital had been undergone” has an incorrect verb construction. Sentence boundaries and punctuation are also unreliable: the long 2007 sentence joins several ideas with commas, and “In which” is left as a fragment. Articles, agreement and prepositions also need attention, as in “beside city road” and “they have 3 linked road.” Practise forming clear past-tense descriptions, such as “In 2007, the car park was east of Hospital Road,” and separate each map feature into a complete sentence.
