Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You identify the main period of change, including the addition of two roundabouts, the separation of staff and public parking, and the replacement of bus stops with a bus station. You also note that the Ring Road remains. However, some details are inaccurate or unclear: the bus station is newly located west of Hospital Road, rather than simply transferred, and the 2007 bus stops were on both sides of that road. The claim that the staff car park entrance opens into the hospital is not supported by the maps. The overview and comparisons are limited, and the response is 144 words, below the 150-word minimum; the 10 words copied from the prompt are excluded. Include the key changes more precisely and develop them with clear comparisons.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a basic overall structure: an opening, an overview, and separate descriptions of 2007 and 2010. This gives the reader a general sense of the comparison. However, progression within paragraphs is sometimes unclear, and several ideas are joined awkwardly, as in “In 2007 there was a city hospital in the ring road and, a car park…” The overview also combines several changes in a fragment-like sequence rather than presenting a clear summary. Linking words are limited, and references such as “which are connected” do not make the relationship between the roundabouts and Hospital Road fully clear. Organise the information by location or by change, and use accurate links such as “whereas,” “by contrast,” and “in addition” to make comparisons easier to follow.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some relevant map vocabulary, including “Ring Road,” “roundabouts,” “staff car park,” and “bus station,” so the main subject is generally recognisable. However, the range is limited and several word choices or spellings reduce precision: “sperate parking of car,” “tranfer,” “modification in map,” and “infront” are problematic. Phrases such as “car and public park convert in just public park” make the change in parking arrangements difficult to understand. Use standard map-description collocations and distinguish clearly between the former shared car park and the two separate facilities in 2010. More precise verbs such as “was replaced by,” “was designated,” and “was added” would help communicate the changes accurately.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The response attempts both simple statements and longer sentences, but grammatical control is inconsistent, and errors sometimes make relationships difficult to understand. For example, “The two maps illustrates” has subject–verb disagreement, while “overall, changes in the city hospital two roundabouts…” lacks a complete grammatical structure. Articles and prepositions are also often missing or misplaced, as in “in the East side of the city hospital” and “infront of hospital.” Tense control is uneven when describing the maps, and punctuation does not reliably separate ideas. Practise complete sentences with a clear subject and verb, and use past-tense forms consistently for the 2007 and 2010 layouts. Check agreement, articles, and sentence boundaries during revision.
