Student answer (Band 6.0)
The two maps presents the comparison of a city hospital road access of how it looked in 2007 and how it looked in 2010.
Overall, one of the major change was a seperate car park for both public and staff. Moreover a bus station was included, besides that two roundabout that connect the bus station.
In 2007, there was the single car park on the south of the city hospital for both public and staff, that changed in 2010, the public car parked moved on the east side of the city hospital, while staff car park remaind at the same place.
One the other hand, there was just a bus stop on the east of city hospital. However, this chnaged in 2010, a bus station was included on the west side of the hospital road. Conversely, two roundabound was also included on north and south of the hospital road, both of the roundboud connects with bus station.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You identify the main changes: the shared car park becomes separate staff and public facilities, bus stops are replaced by a bus station, and two roundabouts are added. The overview also gives the reader a useful sense of the overall redevelopment. Some details, however, are inaccurate or unclear. In 2007 there were three bus stops on each side of Hospital Road, not just one on the east, and the public car park was not moved to the east side of the hospital; it was added east of Ring Road, while the existing car park became staff-only. The roundabouts are at the Ring Road and City Road junctions, rather than simply north and south of Hospital Road. More precise location descriptions would make the account more complete and accurate.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, an overview, and paragraphs describing the car parks and public transport changes. This makes the main comparison easy to follow. You also use linking expressions such as “Overall,” “Moreover,” and “However.” At times, though, these links are mechanical or do not express the relationship accurately: “On the other hand” introduces another feature rather than a contrast, and “Conversely” is not a natural fit for the roundabouts. Some sentences combine several points without clear connections, particularly the overview. Grouping related changes more cleanly and using precise references to locations would strengthen the progression and cohesion.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use relevant task vocabulary, including “car park,” “bus station,” “hospital road,” and “roundabout,” so the reader can understand the general subject. However, the range and precision are limited, and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate. For example, “the public car parked moved” is unclear, while “two roundabound” and “roundboud” show spelling problems with a key term. “A separate car park for both public and staff” also does not clearly convey that the facilities became separate. Use consistent map terminology and practise accurate spelling of important labels. More precise verbs such as “was converted,” “was added,” and “was replaced” would help describe the changes clearly.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, including clauses with “while” and “that,” but control is uneven. Agreement errors appear in “The two maps presents” and “one of the major change was”; the plural subject and noun forms need attention. Some sentence constructions are incomplete or awkward, such as “However, this changed in 2010, a bus station was included,” where two independent clauses are joined incorrectly. Articles and prepositions also need more consistent control, as in “on the south of the city hospital.” These errors sometimes make relationships between ideas harder to follow. Practise building accurate comparison sentences, checking subject–verb agreement, and using full stops or conjunctions to connect clauses.
