Student answer (Band 5.5)

The maps illustrates road access of a city hospital between 2007 and 2010.

Overall, the city hospital road earlier accessed was straight while after 4 years it was build new infrastructure, they build separate bus station then constructed staff parking and public parking in two different areas.

In 2007, city hospital has bus parking and staff or public parking were the same later on it had been reconstructed and build a new bus stop on the west side. Furthermore, they build roundabout on the center of the hospital and the main city road to divert traffic.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You identify the main change over time: access was reorganised, bus stops were replaced by a bus station, and parking was separated into staff and public areas. The overview also recognises the addition of roundabouts, which is a significant feature. However, some details are inaccurate or unclear: the bus station was not a new bus stop, and the public car park was placed east of Ring Road, rather than simply describing both car parks as extended on the east side of the hospital. The claim that a roundabout was built “on the center of the hospital” is also incorrect; the roundabouts are at the Ring Road and City Road junctions. More precise location descriptions and fuller comparison of the two layouts would strengthen the report.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The response has a basic paragraph structure, with an introduction, an overview and two detail paragraphs, and it uses linking expressions such as “Overall,” “Furthermore” and “However.” These help signal relationships between ideas. However, the progression is not consistently clear: the final two paragraphs repeat the separation of parking and the construction of the bus station, while “However” does not introduce a clear contrast. Some references, such as “it” and “two main side,” are difficult to interpret, and the details are not grouped consistently by feature or by year. Organise the body around the main changes—road layout and bus access, then parking—and use clear references to each location.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use relevant task vocabulary, including “roundabout,” “bus station,” “staff parking” and “public parking,” so the reader can follow the general subject. There is also some attempt to describe change through phrases such as “reconstructed” and “separate.” However, several choices are imprecise or unnatural, including “bus parking” for bus stops, “road earlier accessed was straight,” and “extended area” for the new parking arrangements. Repetition of “build” and “parking” also limits the range. Choose precise map terms and collocations, such as “bus stops,” “was replaced by a bus station,” and “a separate public car park was added.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt a mixture of simple and more complex sentences, including a time contrast in “while after 4 years” and a clause beginning “However.” Some sentence meanings remain understandable, but errors in agreement, tense and sentence construction occur across the response. For example, “The maps illustrates” has subject–verb disagreement, while “they build” and “it had been change” use incorrect verb forms. “The bus station were built” also has a singular–plural agreement error. Several sentences join ideas awkwardly, making relationships harder to follow. Practise accurate past-tense descriptions of completed changes and check agreement between each subject and verb; shorter, well-controlled sentences would improve clarity while you develop complex structures.
