Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You identify the main overall change—that the access layout was redeveloped—and describe several relevant features, including the hospital, Ring Road, the car parks and the replacement of bus stops by a bus station. However, some important details are missing or unclear. The 2010 map has two roundabouts, at the junctions of Hospital Road with Ring Road and City Road, but you mention only a new roundabout without locating either one. You also say the bus stops were removed from the east side, although the individual stops on both sides disappeared. The new public car park’s position east of Ring Road and the bus station’s west-side access are not clearly reported. A more precise overview and fuller comparison would strengthen the response.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, an overview, a description of 2007 and a final paragraph about 2010. This gives the reader a basic chronological route through the maps. However, progression within paragraphs is sometimes unclear, and linking is repetitive, particularly through repeated references to “the east” and “after 3 years.” The overview, “changes which has develop many thing and removes many places,” is too vague to guide the reader, while the final sentence repeats the general idea of change rather than summarising the key developments. Grouping the 2010 changes by feature—road junctions, parking and bus facilities—and using clearer references would make the comparison easier to follow.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some task-relevant vocabulary, including “Ring Road,” “car park,” “bus station” and “roundabout,” so the reader can identify the main map features. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate or unclear, such as “on the back of the hospital,” “many thing,” and “demolish” for the removal of bus stops. Spelling errors in key terms, including “hopsital,” “hostpial” and “pubilc,” also reduce precision. Aim to use standard location phrases such as “to the north of” and “on the west side of,” and choose verbs that describe map changes accurately. This would make the account more precise and natural.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple statements and longer sentences, and the basic meaning is generally recoverable. However, errors in agreement, verb forms, articles and sentence construction are noticeable. For example, “The given two maps illustrates” has a plural subject with a singular verb, while “Bus stops has been demolish” combines incorrect agreement with an incorrect verb form. The overview sentence, “changes which has develop many thing,” is difficult to interpret because its clause structure and verb forms are faulty. Punctuation also needs attention: “road.ON” runs two sentences together. Practise accurate present and past passive forms for map descriptions, and check subject–verb agreement and sentence boundaries.
