Student answer (Band 5.0)

THE TWO DIFFERENT MAPS DISTINGUISHED THE DEVOLOPMENT OF THE ROAD ACCESS TO A CITY HOSPITAL IN 2007 AND 2010.

OVERALL, OVER A 3 YEARS PERIOD THERE WERE VARIOUS CHANGES IN THE TRANSPORT AND PARKING FACILITY LIKE IN THE EAST SIDE THERE WAS INTRODUCED OF PUBLIC CAR PARK, MOREOVER IT ALSO SEPERATE THE STAFF PARKING.

IN THE BEGINNING OF 2007, THERE WAS COMBINED CAR PARKING AREA FOR PUBLIC, STAFF AND BUS STOP JUST IN THE HOSPITAL ROAD RIGHTSIDE BUT IN 2010 THIS AREA IS ONLY PARKING FOR THE STAFF ONLY.IN THE LEFTSIDE, THER WAS BUS SATION THEN IT WAS CHANGED TO THE BUS STATION.

SIMILARELY, THERE WAS ALSO CHANGED IN THE STARTING AND ENDING PART OF THE HOSPITAL ROAD BY ADDING ROUNDABOUTS. THEN, THER WAS A BIG SEPARATE CAR PARKING AREA IN THE EAST SIDE OKF THE CITY HOSPITAL BUT IN 2007 PUBLIC SHOULD PARK THER CAR IN 2010 STAFF CAR PARKING AREA.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

You identify several major changes, including the addition of roundabouts, the removal of individual bus stops and the separation of staff and public parking. However, some details are inaccurate or unclear: the bus stops were replaced by a bus station, not changed into one, and the new public car park is east of the Ring Road, rather than simply “in the east side” of the hospital. The overview mentions parking changes but does not clearly summarise the overall transformation of access. The response also contains 142 words, below the required 150; the 10 words copied from the task prompt are excluded from that count. Add a little more precise description of the bus station’s access and the new car park’s location.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5

The response has a basic structure, with an overview followed by descriptions of changes, and linking expressions such as “Overall,” “In the beginning,” and “Similarly” help signal relationships. However, progression is difficult to follow because several changes are combined in long, loosely connected sentences. For example, the paragraph beginning “In the beginning of 2007” moves from parking to bus facilities without clearly separating the two, and “Then” introduces another change without a clear reference. The comparison between the maps is also sometimes confusing. Organise the details into clearer groups—such as parking, bus facilities, and road access—and use explicit comparisons to guide the reader.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some relevant task vocabulary, including “car park,” “bus station,” “Hospital Road,” and “roundabouts,” so the main subject is generally recognisable. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate, which sometimes makes the meaning difficult to interpret. For instance, “the maps distinguished the development” is not a natural way to describe what they show, and “separate the staff parking” does not clearly express that the existing car park became staff-only. There are also frequent spelling errors, including “devolopment,” “seperated,” and “similarely.” Practise accurate map-description phrases such as “was converted into,” “was designated for,” and “was added to the east of.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt to compare the two years and use some longer sentence forms, but grammatical control is inconsistent. Errors in verb forms and sentence construction appear in phrases such as “there was introduced of public car park” and “there was also changed,” while “in 2010 this area is only parking for the staff only” has problems with tense and sentence structure. Articles, plurals, and punctuation are also unreliable; for example, “over a 3 years period” and the run-on sentence after “only.” These errors sometimes make relationships between features hard to understand. Use past-tense passive forms for map changes—such as “a public car park was added”—and check each sentence for a clear subject and verb.
