Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You identify the main changes between the maps: the bus stops are replaced by a bus station, the shared car park becomes separate staff and public facilities, and roundabouts are added. You also describe the hospital’s position in relation to the roads. However, some details are inaccurate or unclear: in 2007 the car-park entrance connects to Hospital Road, not Ring Road, and the 2010 public car park is on the east side of Ring Road rather than simply “in east of hospital.” The overview is also weakened by the unsupported claim that the changes were made “to maintain traffic” or that the earlier layout “can cause traffic.” A clearer summary of the principal changes, without speculation, would make the response more complete and precise.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response follows a broadly sensible order, describing the 2007 map before the 2010 map and then comparing them. This gives the reader a basic sense of progression. However, it is presented as one continuous paragraph, and the repeated openings “There is” and “In map” make the account feel list-like rather than clearly organised. Some connections between features are difficult to follow, especially the description of roads near the bus station and the roundabouts. Use separate paragraphs for the overview and the two maps, and group related changes together. More precise linking phrases such as “By 2010,” “Meanwhile,” and “In contrast” would help show how each feature relates to the others.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use relevant map vocabulary, including “ring road,” “bus stops,” “car parking,” “roundabout,” and directional terms, so the reader can generally understand the features being described. However, the range is limited and several phrases are imprecise or unnatural, such as “road access,” “car parking,” “road next to hospital road,” and “divide into four roads.” Repetition of “there is” also restricts variety. Aim for accurate map-description collocations, for example “a car park,” “branches into,” “is located to the east of,” and “is connected to.” Take care with word forms and spelling, including “hospitals” when referring to the single hospital and “os” in place of “of.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and longer sentences, and the sequence of events is usually understandable. However, errors in agreement, articles, verb forms, and sentence boundaries occur across the response. For example, “The two map shows” should be “The two maps show,” while “which get connect” needs a correctly formed passive such as “which connects to.” Several sentences run together without spaces after full stops, and the final sentence joins multiple ideas with repeated “and,” making its structure difficult to control. There are also inconsistent constructions such as “In map of city hospital of 2007 shows.” Practise forming clear subject–verb sentences and use full stops to separate descriptions; then add complex clauses only when their grammar is secure.
