Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
You identify the main subject and make some relevant comparisons, including the separation of staff and public parking by 2010 and the addition of two roundabouts. However, the account only partially reports the map changes, and several details are unclear or inaccurate. For example, the 2007 car park is described as being reached by going north and turning east, whereas the map shows it east of Hospital Road; the 2010 public car park is accessed directly from Ring Road, not by the route described. The overview also says the hospital is at the end of the road, which does not clearly capture the key changes. To strengthen the response, give a concise overview of the new bus station, removal of the bus stops, and changes to parking and road junctions, then describe their locations accurately.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0
There is an attempt to organise the response into an opening, an overview, detail paragraphs and a conclusion. However, the information does not progress clearly: the opening repeats the task, the overview is difficult to interpret, and the final paragraph repeats the roundabout information rather than summarising the main changes. Linking words such as “Moreover,” “furthermore” and “In Counclud” are used, but they do not consistently show the relationship between ideas. Long route descriptions also combine several directions, making the sequence hard to follow. Group the changes by feature—for example, roads and roundabouts, then transport and parking—and use clear location-based sentences to guide the reader.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
The response uses some relevant map vocabulary, including “car park,” “bus station,” “roundabout,” “Ring Road” and “exit,” so the topic is recognisable. However, the range is limited and several word choices or spellings make the meaning difficult to follow, such as “individul,” “esat,” “eixt” and “jion.” Phrases such as “the map show the illustrate” and “the car parking are diffrent” are also not natural ways to describe the changes. Aim for precise, repeated-use terms such as “located to the east of,” “was replaced by,” and “direct access from.” Proofreading spelling and choosing standard map-description collocations would make the account clearer.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
The response attempts to use both simple statements and longer sentences, but control is weak and errors frequently make relationships between features difficult to understand. Examples include “The map show,” “its shows,” and “the car parking are diffrent,” where subject–verb agreement is incorrect. Sentence boundaries and punctuation are also problematic: the route description beginning “For Hospital road go straight” runs through several actions without a clear grammatical structure. Tense and article use are inconsistent as well. Practise writing short, complete sentences in the past tense, such as “In 2010, the bus stops were replaced by a bus station,” before combining ideas with accurate clauses and punctuation.
