Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5
You identify the two years and report several relevant changes, including the removal of the individual bus stops, the addition of a bus station, and the separation of staff and public parking. However, the response does not give a clear overview of the main transformation, and some locations are misreported or difficult to interpret. For example, in 2007 the car park was accessed from Hospital Road, not from Ring Road as stated. In 2010, the public car park was east of Ring Road, while the staff car park remained east of Hospital Road; these distinctions are not clearly conveyed. To strengthen the report, summarise the overall changes first, then describe the key features accurately and compare the layouts directly.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a basic chronological structure: one paragraph describes 2007 and another describes 2010. This helps the reader recognise which map is being discussed, and some details are grouped by year. However, progression within each paragraph is difficult to follow, particularly in the final sentence, where the bus station, roundabouts and staff car park are combined without clear relationships. Linking is limited, and phrases such as “From south direction” and “In 2010” do not consistently guide the reader through the layout. Use a clearer overview followed by one paragraph per map, and organise each description from the hospital outward or from north to south. More precise referencing would also make comparisons easier to follow.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some relevant map vocabulary, including “surrounded,” “connected,” “bus stops,” “roundabout” and “car parking,” so the reader can identify the main features being described. However, the range is limited and several choices are inaccurate or unnatural, which sometimes makes the layout unclear. For instance, “on front” and “facing hospital” do not precisely describe the position of the roundabout, while “you were entered there” is not an appropriate way to describe access. Spelling errors such as “hosiptal” and “behid” also reduce accuracy. Build a more precise set of location phrases, such as “to the east of,” “at the junction of” and “accessible via,” and check spelling before submitting.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response attempts to describe locations using connected clauses, but sentence structures are often faulty and the range remains limited. Errors in articles, prepositions and verb forms appear throughout, as in “a two maps,” “at the of hospital road,” and “you were entered there.” The long final sentence also joins several ideas without clear grammatical relationships, making the meaning difficult to follow. Past-tense reporting is attempted, but forms such as “the city hospital was between ring road and roundabout was on front” do not form a clear sentence. Practise short, accurate map-description sentences first, then combine them with controlled clauses using “while,” “whereas” or “which.”
