Student answer (Band 5.5)

The maps demonstartes the changes of the City Hospital from 2007 to 2010.

Overall it is clear t, the layout of the hospital has changed significantly over the years, while some structure reamined in the same place and some structure has made in 2010.

In 2007, the cityroad that linked wth hopital road changed to roundabout. In 2010, Bus station located in the northwestenrn side from roundabout and southwestern side from the another roundabout where the hospital road and ring road get connected. however three years there was no roundabout in both roads, it was just conneted.

In 2007, the car park for stuff and public was together in the font of the hospital, but this to two sepeate part in 2010. Public car park located in besides the hospital and stuff car park is in the same place as before. Additionally the bus stop has changed to roundabout in 2010.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You identify the main period of change and mention several relevant features, including the new roundabouts, the bus station, and the separation of the car parks. However, some details are inaccurate or unclear: the public car park is on the east side of Ring Road, not “besides the hospital,” and the bus stops were removed rather than changed into roundabouts. The overview says the layout changed significantly but does not clearly summarise the most important changes. The description of the bus station’s position is also difficult to follow. To strengthen the response, give a precise overview and compare the 2007 and 2010 arrangements accurately, including the removal of the individual bus stops and the new public car park.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a basic paragraph structure, moving from an introduction and overview to descriptions of the road layout and parking. This gives the reader some sense of organisation. However, progression is uneven: the second body paragraph combines the roundabouts and bus station in a confusing sequence, and the final sentence incorrectly links the bus stops with the roundabouts. Some linking words, such as “however” and “Additionally,” are used, but the relationships between ideas are not always clear. Referencing is also vague in phrases such as “the another roundabout” and “this to two separate part.” Grouping the changes by feature—roads and transport, then parking—and using clear comparisons would make the account easier to follow.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some relevant map vocabulary, including “roundabout,” “bus station,” “car park,” and “connected,” so the reader can identify the main subjects. However, the range is limited and several word choices or spelling errors make parts difficult to understand. Examples include “stuff” for staff, “font” for front, “sepeate,” and “northwestenrn.” Some phrases are also imprecise, such as “changed to roundabout” and “in besides the hospital.” Aim for accurate, conventional terms such as “was replaced by,” “located to the east of,” and “staff car park.” Check spelling carefully and use precise directional language to describe the locations shown on the maps.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more extended sentences, and the response is generally recognisable as a comparison of the two maps. However, grammatical errors are frequent and sometimes make relationships unclear. For example, “The maps demonstartes” has subject–verb disagreement, while “the layout … has changed … while some structure reamined” mixes verb forms and has an unclear clause. The sentence beginning “In 2007, the cityroad…” does not clearly express what changed, and “this to two sepeate part” lacks a correct verb and sentence structure. Articles, plurals, and prepositions also need attention. Practise clear past-tense comparison patterns, such as “In 2007, X was…, whereas by 2010 it had been…” and proofread each sentence for a complete, correctly formed clause.
