Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

You identify the two years and report several key changes, including the roundabouts, the bus station and the separate car parks. However, some details are misreported: in 2010 the bus station is west of Hospital Road, not east, and the staff car park remains east of Hospital Road rather than being on the west side. The overview that “all other places redeveloped” is also too broad, and the hospital itself is not shown as modernized. The response is under the required 150 words, which limits how fully you can describe and compare the maps. To improve, give a precise overview and check each location against the map before adding detail; explain that the bus stops were replaced by a bus station and that parking was reorganized.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a basic, useful structure: it introduces the maps, then describes 2007 and 2010 in separate paragraphs. Time markers such as “In 2007” and “In 2010” help the reader follow the comparison. However, progression within the paragraphs is limited, and some links between changes are unclear. For example, “On eastern side, bus stop replaced the bus station” makes the relationship between the old stops and the new station difficult to follow, while the final sentence shifts to the public car park without a clear transition. Use a clearer overview followed by grouped comparisons, and connect changes accurately with phrases such as “Meanwhile” or “By contrast.” This would make the organisation more coherent and reduce the effect of unclear referencing.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use relevant map vocabulary, including “ring road,” “roundabout,” “bus station” and “car parking,” so the reader can understand the general subject. There are also attempts at more descriptive language, such as “redeveloped” and “connecting.” However, word choice and spelling errors are noticeable and sometimes make the description confusing. “Rounded the whole hospital” is not a natural way to describe the road’s position, and “bus stop replaced the bus station” reverses the intended change. Spelling errors such as “containig” and “connnecting” also reduce accuracy. Build a more reliable set of location and change phrases, and check spelling and collocations carefully; for example, use “surrounds the hospital” and “the bus stops were replaced by a bus station.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple sentences and longer structures, including “Only ring road, which is rounded the whole hospital, remain same…” and a sentence describing the car park “connecting the ring road.” However, the longer constructions are often faulty, and errors in articles, agreement and verb forms occur frequently. For example, “The diagram illustrate” needs subject–verb agreement, while “remain same” needs an article and a suitable verb form. Capitalisation is also inconsistent in “hospital road” and “city road.” These errors sometimes make relationships between features harder to understand. Practise accurate present-tense descriptions and past-tense comparisons, and use shorter, controlled sentences before adding relative clauses or participle phrases.
