Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0

You identify the topic and time period, and you mention changes to roads, parking and bus facilities. However, the response reports only a small part of the map information and does not give a clear, accurate overview of the main changes. The claim that roads were “dividing several parts” is unclear, and “roundabout in front and backsides” does not explain that two roundabouts were added at the Ring Road and City Road junctions. You also omit the new public car park, the staff-only designation of the existing car park, and the removal of the individual bus stops. The response is 88 words, below the required 150, which contributes to the limited coverage. Describe the key changes and locations more fully, using a concise overview and specific comparisons.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a basic paragraph structure: an introduction, an overview, and a paragraph comparing the two years. The opening “In 2007” and linking phrase “In contrast” help signal a comparison. However, progression is limited because the final paragraph combines several features without explaining their locations or how they changed. The overview sentence beginning “Overall” is difficult to follow, so it does not effectively guide the reader through the report. Some linking is also awkward: “as well as” does not clearly connect the bus stops and car park, while “In contrast” introduces a comparison that is not fully explained. Organise the details by feature or by year, and use clear references to connect each change to its location.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use some relevant map vocabulary, including “facilities,” “road system,” “bus station,” and “car parking,” and the reader can recognise the general subject. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations make the meaning unclear. “Roads system” and “parking system” are imprecise for describing specific map changes, while “in front and backsides” is not a natural way to locate the roundabouts. There are also spelling errors in “noticable” and “seperate.” Aim for precise terms such as “junction,” “access road,” and “car park,” and use location phrases such as “to the west of Hospital Road” or “at the junction with City Road.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response attempts a few different sentence forms, including a comparison with “whereas” and a contrast introduced by “In contrast.” However, the range remains limited, and errors in sentence construction and grammatical patterns are frequent enough to make some statements difficult to interpret. For example, “Overall, the significant changes in roads system, whereas…” is not a complete, well-formed sentence, and “the bus stop placed at besides the hospital road” has an incorrect verb pattern and preposition. The phrase “there were the bus station and car parking system placed” also uses an awkward structure. Practise complete sentences with a clear subject and verb, and check articles, plurals, and prepositions when describing locations.
