Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You identify the main period of change and include several relevant features: the bus stops were removed, a bus station and roundabouts were added, and the parking arrangements changed. The overview beginning “overall” helps signal the broad transformation. However, some details are inaccurate or unclear. The public car park was not placed beside the hospital; it was added east of the Ring Road, while the existing car park became staff-only. The two roundabouts are at the Ring Road and City Road intersections, rather than simply “in the south side.” The claim that the Ring Road is “just beside to the hospital” also misses that its layout remained broadly unchanged. More precise comparisons and clearer descriptions of the locations would make the account more complete.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a basic overall structure: an opening, an overview, and separate descriptions of the southern and northern areas. This gives the reader some sense of how the information is organised. However, progression is not consistently clear, and the repeated references to removed bus stops in both the overview and final paragraph make the account feel repetitive. Linking phrases such as “in the south side” and “in the north side” are useful in principle, but the descriptions within each section do not always follow a clear route through the map. Some references, including “both of these,” are also difficult to interpret. Grouping the changes by road or by 2007-to-2010 comparison would create a clearer sequence.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use some relevant map vocabulary, including “roundabout,” “bus station,” “staff car park,” “junction,” and “addition,” so the reader can identify many of the features being described. However, the range is limited and several word-choice, collocation, and spelling problems make the account less precise. For example, “infrastructural changes in the way of city hospital” is not a natural description, and “totally removed” is less suitable than a concise term such as “removed” or “replaced.” Spellings such as “adidtion,” “un chabged,” and “costructed” also distract from the message. Aim for accurate map-specific phrases such as “east of the Ring Road” and “on the western side of Hospital Road.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
There are attempts to use more than simple statements, including “while” to contrast changes and a relative clause in “the way of city hospital,” but sentence structures are limited and many are faulty. Errors in verb forms and agreement appear in phrases such as “the city road was remain untouched” and “bus stop were totally removerd.” Articles and prepositions are also often missing or misplaced, as in “in south side” and “beside to the hospital.” Punctuation and capitalisation are inconsistent, with several sentences beginning in lowercase and commas separating loosely connected ideas. These errors sometimes make relationships between features difficult to follow. Practise accurate past-tense map descriptions and build clear sentences with one main change per sentence.
