Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0
The response makes an attempt to compare the two years and mentions access, parking and bus facilities, but it only minimally reports the map information. Several key details are inaccurate or unclear: the 2007 map shows Hospital Road as the access route between Ring Road and City Road, not “three different types of road access,” and the hospital is not described as having only “one door.” The claim that there was no car parking is also incorrect; the 2007 car park served staff and the public. The 2010 changes—two roundabouts, a bus station, separate staff and public car parks, and the removal of individual bus stops—are largely omitted. Replace unsupported judgements about “smart decoration” and safety with a clear overview and accurate comparisons of these features.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a basic paragraph structure: an introduction, an attempted overview, and a body paragraph, and it uses sequencing and contrast markers such as “Overall,” “Firstly,” “Secondly,” and “However.” These features give the reader some sense of organisation. However, there is no clear progression through the map changes: the body moves from access to safety, parking and bus facilities, then makes a vague statement about “lots of roads.” Some linking phrases do not express a clear relationship, and references such as “this hospital area” and “their planing” are difficult to follow. Organise the report by describing the 2007 layout first and then the specific 2010 changes, using clear comparisons rather than repeated general statements.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
The response uses a small range of topic-related vocabulary, including “road access,” “car parking,” and “bus station,” and attempts to describe change with “changed” and “made.” However, vocabulary is basic and often inaccurate or repetitive, which makes some points difficult to understand. Phrases such as “prosper their idea,” “smart decoration,” and “safety door for uncertain accident” are not appropriate descriptions of map changes. There are also noticeable spelling errors, including “illiustrates,” “differrent,” “critaria,” and “guist.” Use precise map vocabulary such as “roundabout,” “entrance,” “located,” “replaced,” and “separate,” and check spelling and collocations so the reader can identify the features being compared.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response attempts both simple and longer sentence forms, including a contrast introduced by “On the other hand” and a sequence using “Firstly” and “Secondly.” However, control is inconsistent, and errors in sentence structure, agreement, articles and verb forms sometimes obscure meaning. For example, “The two maps illustrates” has subject–verb disagreement, while “city hospital areas has prosper their idea” has an unclear subject and faulty verb construction. “This hospital area are not outdoor facilities” also shows problems with agreement and sentence formation. Practise building clear sentences with a subject and verb, and use past tense consistently when describing the 2007 and 2010 maps. More accurate simple sentences would make the comparisons easier to understand.
