Summarize the information by selecting and reporting the main features and make comparisons wherever relevant.

Student answer (Band 5.5)

The two diagrams illustrate the road access to a city healthcare center in 2007 and 2010.

Overall, the route to city hospital has been significantly changed and develope the better car park for public and staff. Bus station also moved from central road to left side of central road.

Looking in the picture in detail, tradionally there was a combined car park for staff and public at the east side of central road and there are six bus stop across the central road, there was a ring road around the city health care.

After redesign they were developed the distinct car park for both staff and public. Public car park was built at the east side hospital conected with ring road. And staff car park was developed at sout side of ring road. The bus station was built at west side of hospital.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You identify the main change: the shared car park became separate staff and public facilities, and the bus stops were replaced by a bus station. However, some locations are inaccurate or unclear. The public car park is east of the Ring Road, not simply “at the east side hospital,” while the staff car park remains east of Hospital Road; it is not “at sout side of ring road.” The bus station is west of Hospital Road, rather than just west of the hospital. Your overview also misses the two new roundabouts, an important change to access. The response is 143 words, below the required 150, and several features are under-described. Include the roundabouts and state more precisely how Hospital Road connects the roads and facilities.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, an overview, and two paragraphs describing the earlier and later layouts. This gives the reader a basic chronological progression, and phrases such as “Overall” and “Looking in the picture in detail” signal the stages of the report. However, the progression is weakened by unclear references, including “central road” and “they,” and by the abrupt sequence of short statements in the final paragraph. The repeated use of “And” to begin a sentence also makes the linking feel mechanical. Organise the details around the main road and its facilities, and use clearer links such as “By contrast” or “In addition” to show how the 2010 layout differs.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use some relevant map vocabulary, including “ring road,” “car park,” “bus station,” and “east side,” so the reader can follow the general topic. There is also an attempt to describe change through “developed” and “built.” However, the range is limited and several choices are inaccurate or unnatural, such as “healthcare center” for the hospital, “tradionally” for the earlier arrangement, and “develop the better car park.” Spelling errors such as “conected” and “sout” also reduce precision. Use standard map-report terms and more exact verbs: for example, say that facilities were “introduced,” “relocated,” or “converted,” and distinguish clearly between the east of Hospital Road and the east of the Ring Road.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt a few longer structures, including “there was a combined car park … and there are six bus stop,” but control is inconsistent, and errors sometimes make relationships difficult to understand. Tense shifts from past “there was” to present “there are” when describing the 2007 map. Other problems include the missing subject and incorrect verb form in “After redesign they were developed,” the article and number error in “six bus stop,” and the incomplete construction “Public car park was built at the east side hospital conected with ring road.” Most sentences rely on simple clauses, with limited accurate complex sentence control. Practise consistent past-tense descriptions and build complete sentences with clear subjects, articles, and prepositions.
