Student answer (Band 6.0)
The two maps illustrate road access to a city hospital from 2007 to 2010.
Overall, city hospital are seen to be more developed and new facilities are added, however, some are completely changed are removed from the hospital.
City Hospital in 2007 are small as compare to the 2010 like in 2007 there are one area for car park, staff and public. However, in 2010 that area are now only for staff car park and in east site of the city hospital pubic car park are constructed. In addition, bus stop have completely removed from the east site in 2007 and in 2010 a well developed bus station are added to the hospital rd along with two roads.
In 2007 hospital there has no roundabout, while, in 2010 a roundabout are seen in the hospital. However, city road and ring road are well-developed and big and more roundabout have added to the roads site as compare to the 2007 city hospital, while there has no changed in the city hospital loctionand remained the same in the centre of the area.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You identify the main transformation: the shared car park becomes staff-only, a public car park is added, and the bus stops are replaced by a bus station. You also note that the hospital remains in the same location. This covers the key changes and gives a clear overall impression, with some detail beyond a basic summary. However, several points are inaccurate or unclear: the bus stops were on both sides of Hospital Road, not only the east side, and the 2010 layout has two roundabouts—at Ring Road and City Road—not simply “a roundabout” at the hospital. The claim that City Road and Ring Road became “big” or were developed is not supported by the maps. More precise reporting of the road connections would strengthen the overview and detail.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, an overview, and two paragraphs describing changes. This gives the reader a generally coherent route through the comparison. Linking expressions such as “Overall,” “However,” and “In addition” help signal relationships between points. At times, though, the progression is weakened by unclear references and connections. For example, “some are completely changed are removed” does not make clear which features are being discussed, and the final paragraph shifts between roundabouts, road development, and the hospital’s unchanged location. Some transitions, especially repeated uses of “However,” feel mechanical or do not express a clear contrast. Grouping the changes by transport access and parking, then describing the road layout, would make the comparison easier to follow.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use relevant map vocabulary, including “car park,” “bus station,” “roundabout,” “Ring Road,” and “Hospital Road,” so the reader can identify the main features. There is also an attempt to describe change with phrases such as “completely removed” and “remained the same.” However, the range and precision are uneven, and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate: “more developed,” “big,” and “roads site” do not describe the mapped changes clearly. Spelling errors such as “pubic” and “loctionand” also reduce accuracy. Aim for precise verbs and location phrases, for example “was converted into,” “was added to the east of,” and “at the junction of.” This would make the description more natural and specific.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt a mix of simple and complex sentences, including contrast clauses with “while” and “however,” and the main message is usually recoverable. However, errors in agreement, verb forms, articles, and sentence construction occur across the response. Examples include “city hospital are,” “that area are,” and “a roundabout are seen”; these subjects require singular verb forms. The sentence beginning “Overall” also combines clauses awkwardly, while “in 2007 there are one area” mixes tense and number. Some punctuation around “while” and “however” is also inaccurate. Practise describing past map layouts consistently in the past tense, checking subject–verb agreement, and separating contrasting ideas into complete sentences. More accurate control of these patterns would make your comparisons clearer.
