Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.0
The response identifies the topic and attempts an overall comparison, noting that bus stops were removed and that parking changed. However, the account is extremely brief and omits most key developments: the new bus station, the separation of staff and public parking, and the two roundabouts on Hospital Road. The statement that a public car park was added “beside the hospital” is imprecise; it was east of Ring Road, while the existing car park became staff-only. The description of the station moving “in the hospital road” is also unclear. The response contains 46 words, so it does not meet the 150-word minimum; 10 words copied from the prompt are excluded. Select the main changes and describe their locations accurately.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0
There is a basic sequence: an opening sentence is followed by an attempted overview and then changes between 2007 and 2010. This gives the reader a simple starting point, but the response is too short to develop a coherent account of the maps, and the relationships between changes are not clearly organised. For example, “In 2007 here we see a bus stop but 2010 they remove it” combines the two years without a clear grammatical or logical link, while “The station move in the hospital road” is disconnected from the preceding point. Use separate sentences or paragraphs for the overview and specific changes, and connect each feature to its location and year.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
The response uses a small set of relevant terms, including “road access,” “bus stop,” “public car” and “hospital road,” so the general subject is recognisable. However, the vocabulary is limited and some choices are inaccurate or unclear. “Car parling area” appears to be a misspelling of “car parking area,” and “The station move in the hospital road” does not clearly describe the bus station’s location or access. “Huge transformation” is also an imprecise, informal way to summarise the changes. Use map-specific terms such as “bus station,” “staff car park,” “roundabout,” and “east of the Ring Road” to report the changes more precisely.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
The response attempts both a simple opening and a longer comparison, but sentence structures are mostly basic and control is inconsistent. In “The two map illustrate,” the plural subject requires “maps illustrate.” The overview, “Overall, we the hospital did a huge transformation,” has an unclear subject and verb construction; a clearer form would be “Overall, the hospital’s road access underwent major changes.” In “In 2007 here we see a bus stop but 2010 they remove it,” the tense shifts and the clause for 2010 lacks a clear subject. “The station move” also needs a past-tense verb. Practise accurate past-tense descriptions and complete clauses before attempting longer comparisons.
