Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You identify several important changes, including the addition of roundabouts, the replacement of the bus stops by a bus station, and the separation of staff and public parking. However, some details are inaccurate or unclear: the bus station is west of Hospital Road, not simply a bus stop moved from the east to the west, and the staff car park remains east of Hospital Road rather than being described as southeast with access to Ring Road. The overview mentions changes but does not clearly summarise the main transformation of the access layout. To strengthen the response, compare the two maps more precisely and explain that the bus stops were removed and a bus station was built beside Hospital Road, with connections to both roundabouts.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a basic structure, with an opening, an overview and two detail sections, and it generally moves from transport access to parking. This gives the reader some sense of organisation. However, progression is weakened by unclear links and references, such as “map a new roundabout is added” and “which is replaced and moved,” where it is difficult to identify exactly what changed. “Firstly” and “Therefore” do not clearly signal the relationship between the points that follow, and the final paragraph combines several parking details without a clear comparison. Use one paragraph for road and bus changes and another for parking, and connect each 2010 feature explicitly to its 2007 counterpart.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use relevant map vocabulary, including “roundabout,” “bus stop,” “car park,” and “Ring Road,” so the reader can recognise the main features being described. However, the range is limited and several phrases are imprecise or unnatural, which sometimes makes the intended meaning difficult to follow. For example, “for easily accessed to bus station” and “a public and car staff park” do not express the changes clearly. Aim for accurate collocations and consistent labels for each feature, rather than repeating “added” or “at the east side.” More precise verbs such as “replaced,” “relocated,” and “designated” would help describe the map changes effectively.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response attempts a few longer sentences, but most structures are simple and errors occur frequently enough to affect clarity. For example, “The two maps illustrates” has subject–verb disagreement, while “there had many particular changes” uses an unsuitable verb form and construction. Articles and plurals are also inconsistent in phrases such as “two new roundabout” and “has a access.” Sentence boundaries and punctuation need attention: several sentences begin with capitalised linking words after commas, and the overview runs together. Practise accurate present and past forms when comparing maps, and build clear sentences around a subject and verb—for example, “In 2010, two roundabouts were added to Hospital Road.”
