Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You identify the two years and report several relevant changes, especially the addition of two roundabouts, the bus station, and separate staff and public parking. These details show a reasonable understanding of the maps. However, the overview is unclear and partly inaccurate: “in the front of hospital” does not explain that the roundabouts are on Hospital Road, at its junctions with Ring Road and City Road. Some descriptions are also difficult to interpret, such as “the road exit in parking area.” To strengthen the response, give a clear overview of the main changes, then describe the 2007 layout and the 2010 alterations precisely, including the removal of the individual bus stops and the public car park’s position east of Ring Road.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has separate paragraphs and follows a basic time sequence, moving from an introduction and overview to the 2007 and 2010 maps. This gives the reader some structure. However, progression within the paragraphs is weak: several features are joined in long strings with repeated “and,” and the relationship between them is not always clear. For example, the 2007 description combines the ring road, parking, bus stops and City Road without clearly locating each feature. The overview also repeats that the maps show changes without summarising them effectively. Use clearer topic sentences and organise each map description by location or by change; linking phrases such as “By 2010” and “In addition” can help, but should not replace clear sentence structure.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some relevant map vocabulary, including “roundabout,” “bus station,” “car parking,” “east” and “west,” so the reader can identify several key features. However, the range is limited and some word choices or collocations make the description hard to understand. Phrases such as “hospital round road,” “in the front,” and “make a two roundabouts” are not natural ways to describe the layout. There are also spelling errors, including “stpoes,” “makr,” and “wast.” Aim to use precise location language and standard map terms consistently, such as “junction,” “to the east of,” and “was replaced by.” Proofreading spelling and choosing accurate collocations would make the information clearer.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

You attempt both simple statements and longer sentences, but control is limited, and errors frequently make relationships between features difficult to follow. The opening, “The given 2 maps illustrates,” has subject–verb disagreement, while “The major changes have make” uses an incorrect verb form. Several sentences lack clear grammatical structure, particularly “The city hospital in 2007 the hospital round road is ring road” and the final sentence, which joins multiple ideas without effective punctuation. Articles and prepositions are also often missing or inaccurate. Practise building accurate simple sentences first, then combine related information using controlled clauses. For example: “In 2007, bus stops stood on both sides of Hospital Road. By 2010, they had been replaced by a bus station to the west.”
