Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You identify several important changes, including the separation of staff and public parking, the addition of roundabouts and the removal of the bus stops. However, the overview is unclear: “developed accounted new roads” does not accurately summarise the main changes, and the road layout itself was largely retained rather than replaced. Some details are mislocated or imprecise: the public car park was added east of the Ring Road, not simply east of the hospital, and the staff car park remained east of Hospital Road rather than being added at the bottom. The bus station was west of Hospital Road, but its position is not clearly described. The response is 148 words, two below the required minimum. Develop a clearer overview and report locations precisely.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a basic paragraph structure: an introduction, an attempted overview and two paragraphs of details. It also uses linking expressions such as “Overall,” “Furthermore” and “On the other hand.” However, progression is difficult to follow because several changes are combined in long, loosely connected sentences, and the contrast signalled by “On the other hand” is not clear. The overview sentence beginning “Overall” is especially hard to interpret, so it does not guide the reader through the comparison. Capitalisation and punctuation also interrupt the flow, for example the comma splice in “In 2007… city road, In 2010…”. Group the changes by feature—roads and roundabouts, then transport and parking—and use clear sentence boundaries and more precise links.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some relevant map vocabulary, including “roundabout,” “car park,” “Ring road” and “Bus station,” so the reader can identify the main subject. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations make the meaning unclear. “Developed accounted new roads” does not express the changes naturally, while “the public car parking shifted” and “the bus station were shift” are awkward or inaccurate formulations. There are also spelling errors such as “remined” and “bas stop,” and “around” appears to be an unsuccessful attempt at “roundabout.” Aim for precise map language such as “was added,” “was converted into,” “to the east of,” and “were removed,” and check spelling and word forms before submitting.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response attempts both simple and more complex sentences, but control is inconsistent, and errors frequently make relationships between features difficult to understand. For example, “The two maps illustrates” has subject–verb disagreement, and “the Bus station were shift” combines incorrect agreement with a faulty verb form. The overview fragment “whereas additions of new car parking, bus station” lacks a complete clause. Sentence boundaries are also unreliable: “In 2007… city road, In 2010…” joins two sentences with a comma, and capital letters appear after commas. Practise building complete sentences with a clear subject and verb, and use past passive forms for changes: “The bus stops were removed” or “A public car park was added.”
