Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.5

You identify the two years and mention several relevant features, including the ring road, hospital road, car parks, bus station and roundabout. However, the comparison is incomplete and some locations are unclear or inaccurate: for example, the 2007 bus stops were on both sides of Hospital Road, while in 2010 they were replaced by a bus station to its west. The overview that the hospital was “very furnished” does not clearly summarise the main changes. The response also contains only 120 words, below the required 150, so several key details are left undeveloped. To improve, give a clear overview and accurately compare the new public car park, the staff-only car park and the removal of the bus stops.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 3.5

The response follows a basic chronological order, moving from 2007 to 2010, and uses a few linking expressions such as “then” and “so.” This gives the reader some sense of sequence. However, most information is packed into one long, loosely connected passage, with no clear paragraphing or distinct overview. Repeated use of “there is” and “then” makes the progression mechanical, while phrases such as “on the top of the ring road on right side” make relationships between features difficult to follow. Organise the answer into an introduction, an overview and separate detail paragraphs for each map or for the main changes. Use precise links such as “whereas” and “by 2010” to clarify comparisons.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.5

You use some relevant map vocabulary, including “ring road,” “car park,” “bus station” and “roundabout,” so the reader can recognise the general subject. However, the range is basic and several choices are inaccurate or unsuitable for describing maps. “Published” does not express the intended idea, “furnished” is not appropriate for road access, and “city outside of the hospital” is unclear. There are also spelling errors such as “prak,” and “bus stop” is used without clearly describing the multiple stops shown in 2007. Build a more precise set of location and change terms, such as “to the east of,” “was replaced by,” and “was converted into,” and check spelling before submitting.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

You attempt to describe both maps using present and past forms, and some basic clauses communicate individual features. However, sentence structures are mostly simple or run together, and errors in agreement, articles, tense and punctuation make the account difficult to read. For example, “The two maps below illustrates” has subject–verb disagreement, while “In 2007 city hospital was” needs clearer article use and consistent capitalisation. The long sentence beginning “In city Hospital 2007” joins many locations without clear grammatical boundaries. Practise writing short, complete comparison sentences first, then combine ideas with accurate clauses: for example, “In 2007, bus stops stood on both sides of Hospital Road; by 2010, they had been replaced by a bus station to the west.”
