Student answer (Band 5.5)

The language is an important source of communication so living in a country where one have to speak foreign language which is not so popular can cause serious social problems and as well other problems related to daily life as it would be difficult to understand and hard to explain ourself to other people.

The social problems related to speaking foreign language are various such as if one person is lost and want to find there way back to there accomodation won't be able to ask about direction and if somehow he manage to explain himself but it would be more hard to understand the instructions. The other example is of foreign student who went to some other country in a student exchange program or maybe for higher education on their own it would be hard for them to make friends and to communicate and understand there lecture which cause them alot of other problems as well.

The practical problems related to speaking foreign language is if someone employed in a multinational company they have to communicate in different language although english is the language spoke in many of countries but there are still many nations that only speak their native language such chinese so it would be hard for them to understand their customer needs and demands which can cause practicla problems related to the work.

In conclusion it is obvious that speaking foreign language is hard and it can cause multiple problems and can one's life from social life to practical life and will be hard for them to survive.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You address both social and practical consequences and give relevant examples, including a lost person seeking directions, an international student, and communication at work. However, the response only partly develops the position: the opening and conclusion indicate that you agree, but the extent of agreement is not stated clearly or explored. Several points are asserted rather than explained—for example, the student may struggle with lectures and friendships, but the effects and possible circumstances are not developed. The work example is relevant, though its link to living in a foreign-language country could be made more explicit. State your degree of agreement directly, then explain the consequences of each example in more detail and connect them to the central claim.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, separate paragraphs on social and practical problems, and a conclusion. This helps the reader identify the main categories of your argument. However, progression within paragraphs is sometimes unclear, and linking is repetitive. For instance, the social paragraph moves from a lost person to a student without a clear transition, while repeated phrases such as “The other example” and “which can cause” make connections feel mechanical. Some references are also difficult to follow, including “there” and “them” in the examples. Use clearer topic sentences, organise each paragraph around one main idea, and add precise links that show cause and effect rather than relying on repeated connectors.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use enough topic-related vocabulary to communicate the main ideas, including “communication,” “student exchange program,” “multinational company,” and “customer needs and demands.” However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate, which sometimes makes the meaning less clear. Examples include “language spoke in many of countries,” “ask about direction,” and “survive” to describe the difficulty of settling into a country. Spelling errors such as “accomodation,” “alot,” and “practicla” are also noticeable. Build a more precise vocabulary for language barriers and social integration, and check common collocations and spelling. This will make your examples clearer without requiring more complicated wording.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt longer sentences using clauses such as “as it would be difficult to understand” and “although English is the language…,” but these structures are often faulty, and sentence control is inconsistent. Errors include subject–verb agreement in “one have to speak,” missing or incorrect articles in “speak foreign language,” and verb-form problems in “if somehow he manage.” The opening sentence also runs several ideas together, making it difficult to follow. Basic punctuation and sentence boundaries need more reliable control. Practise accurate simple sentences first, then combine them with subordinate clauses; check agreement, articles, and verb forms in each sentence before adding further detail.
