Student answer (Band 5.5)

Serious social problems and practical problems faced by those who are living in such countries where you have to speak a foriegn language rather than your own native or mother tongue language. I tottaly agree with this statement.

A number of students as well professionals are moving abroad every year. Most of them, face this difficulty of language in other countries. Usually, those from underdeveloped countries are migrating towards developed countries. I will take the example from my own country. Every year more than a million people are migrating every year.

Many students apply for the student visa in other countries. Most of the countries are English, including, Australia, Canada, New Zeeland, etc. As most of us are studying English in our education, they feel less hesitation in such countries. On the other side, now-a-days, many students are going in Non-English countries for higher educations as well. Such countries include, China, Russia, many of the European countries. In such countries, they can hardly communicate with their locals. This is the most concerned fact about social problems and practical problems faced by the people those are live in such countries and have to communicate with the locals in a foreign language.

Recently, one of my friends, got the visa from German ambassy. He faced serious social problems in everything, including ordering food, travelling in local buses, asking for directions, etc. As German is one of the toughest languages, learning German is not as easy. On the other hand, He could not manage to get a part-time job as well. As they usually prefer the one who can atleast communicate a bit. Although, he has learned a bit of German now but he actually faced a lot of problems.

In conclusion, people those are living in a country where they have to speak a foreign language face a lot of problems in everyday life as compared to those who are living in a country where they have to speak their native language.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

Your position is clear from the opening: “I totally agree,” and the response stays focused on difficulties caused by having to use another language. The examples of ordering food, using buses, asking for directions, and finding part-time work are relevant and help explain both practical and social effects. However, the discussion is unevenly developed: the paragraph about students moving abroad gives broad background, but does not explain in much detail how language barriers affect relationships or social integration. The German example is more specific, though its consequences could be explored further. To strengthen the response, develop each main effect with a clear explanation and connect it explicitly to your degree of agreement throughout.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a recognisable overall structure, moving from your position to background information, examples, and a conclusion. Paragraphing generally separates these stages, and transitions such as “On the other hand” and “In conclusion” help guide the reader. However, progression within the middle paragraphs is sometimes loose: the discussion shifts from English-speaking destinations to non-English countries and then to your friend without clearly signalling how each point builds the argument. Some linking phrases are also mechanical or repetitive, and references such as “they” and “such countries” can be unclear. Organise the body around distinct effects—everyday practical difficulties and social or employment consequences—and use more precise links between each example and the point it supports.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use enough topic-related vocabulary to communicate the main ideas, including “migrating,” “communicate,” “part-time job,” and “directions.” The examples make the meaning generally clear. However, word choice and collocation are often inaccurate or repetitive, as in “the most concerned fact,” “higher educations,” and “face a lot of problems.” There are also noticeable spelling errors, including “foriegn,” “tottaly,” “ambassy,” and “New Zeeland.” These do not usually prevent understanding, but they reduce precision and naturalness. Build a more accurate range of phrases for describing barriers and consequences, and check spelling carefully. For example, use “a major concern” rather than “the most concerned fact,” and “higher education” rather than “higher educations.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including a contrast with “On the other hand” and a subordinate clause beginning “As German is one of the toughest languages.” The overall meaning is usually understandable, but grammatical control is inconsistent. The opening is a sentence fragment (“Serious social problems and practical problems faced by those…”), and there are errors in agreement and clause structure, such as “people those are live” and “As they usually prefer the one.” Articles, plurals, and verb forms also need attention: “in other countries,” “higher educations,” and “he has learned” in the context of the past account. Practise building complete sentences with a clear subject and verb, and review relative clauses and tense consistency. More accurate complex sentences would make your reasoning easier to follow.
