Student answer (Band 5.5)

Nowadays many people think that engilah is essential for daily life. people living a country who speak a foreign language can be cause serious problem, especially partical porblems. I agree with this statment because it neasseary to people live in country. I will explain in [aragraph.

To begin with, there are many disadvantages for people. Firstly, social problems like people feeling alone without their family and friends mean they do not make friendships with other people. A more essential part of social problems is that such people do not mix into the culture. For example, they are not comfortable with their people. As a result, they get upset and feel alone without their family. Moreover, practical problems like people not speaking the country's language affect daily opportunities. For instance, people cannot easily find a job or buy vegetables. They also face difficulties with many important works like bank documents and a doctor's advice when they fall ill."

Secondly, the country's language is more important to the people who live there. First, even if a person is highly qualified, they have to take low-paying jobs like cleaning or driving just because they cannot speak fluent English or local languages. For example, people are highly qualified for recommended jobs in their home country, but they are not important when living there. As a result, they work hard and pass their daily routine with low wages. Furthermore, people experience stress when they cannot communicate better; their struggling leads to extreme stress and low self-confidence. Instead, they do not speak about any problem to other people.

Overall, it can be seen that there are social and practical problems. People experience stress and their confidence level becomes low. Meanwhile, the country's language is more important to people, especially in work areas and advice areas.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You take a relevant position by stating, “I agree,” and discuss both social effects, such as isolation and difficulty mixing into the culture, and practical effects, including finding work and dealing with banks or doctors. These points address the topic, but the position is not consistently explained: the opening claim that English is essential is unclear in relation to the question, and the conclusion mainly repeats the problems rather than clarifying how strongly you agree. Several examples are also vague or confusing, particularly the claim that qualified people “are not important” in their new country. Develop each main point with a clearer explanation of how language barriers cause the stated problem, and use specific, plausible examples to support your view.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has an introduction, two body paragraphs and a conclusion, and signposts such as “To begin with,” “Moreover” and “Overall” help readers recognise the main sections. However, progression within paragraphs is sometimes unclear, and the second body paragraph shifts from the importance of learning the local language to employment and stress without making the links explicit. Some ideas are repeated, especially loneliness and stress, while “For example” is occasionally followed by an unclear illustration. The opening also contains an incomplete phrase (“I will explain in [aragraph”), which interrupts the flow. Organise each paragraph around one central claim, then explain it and give a directly relevant example; use linking expressions selectively and make references such as “they” unambiguous.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some topic-related vocabulary, including “social problems,” “daily opportunities,” “low-paying jobs,” “self-confidence” and “communicate,” so the reader can identify the main subject. However, the range is limited and several inaccurate word choices or collocations make parts difficult to understand. For example, “mix into the culture,” “important works,” “advice areas” and “people are not important” do not express the intended meanings clearly. Spelling errors such as “engilah,” “partical” and “statment” are also noticeable. Build a more precise set of phrases for language barriers, employment and public services, and check spelling and word forms carefully. Prefer natural combinations such as “integrate into the local culture” and “complete official paperwork.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt some longer structures, including “even if a person is highly qualified” and clauses beginning with “when,” “because” and “without.” However, the range is limited, and errors occur frequently in basic sentence construction, agreement, articles and verb forms. The opening sentence, “people living a country who speak a foreign language can be cause serious problem,” is difficult to follow because its clause structure and verb form are faulty. Other examples include “it neasseary to people live in country” and “they do not make friendships.” Capitalisation and punctuation are also inconsistent, including the lowercase start “people” and the stray quotation mark after “ill.” Practise accurate simple sentences first, then add subordinate clauses while checking subject–verb agreement and complete sentence structure.
