IELTS Writing Task 2 question

Living in a country where you have to speak a foreign language can cause serious social problems, as well as practical problems.

To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement?

Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

Student answer (Band 6.5)

The individuals believe that living in out of country where they face to speak foreign language may cause some serious problems in both practical work and social interactions. I strongly agree with this point living in foreign country means struggling with language barriers.

It is believed that persons living in non native country struggled with language and face difficulties at every aspects of life due to lack of knowledge about the language. For instance, some individuals move to USA for better facilities and for enhancing their financial condition.  However, they knew only their native language and not expert in english speaking they find difficult to communicate with others for work. Whenever, they go to shop they cannot understand what the shopkeeper is saying to them on the other hand the salesman also not understand what they are demanding for. Thus, this can cause loss of social interaction and make them to survive in crisis.

Furthermore, it can also cause practical issues for persons living in foreign. For example, someone moved to abroad for higher studies and to get good educational environment to enhance their practical skills. However, they go to colleges, universities to attend classes on daily bases but they unable to understand the lectures, cannot talk to their classmates and even cannot go to university's canteen to eat something due to language barrier. Although they find difficulties in understanding the signs of the roads, buses timing as well as bus stops. I strongly agree it is quite tough to live in abroad with native language have to face issues in daily talking also in professional communication.

In conclusion, living in overseas countries with lack of knowledge in foreign speaking cause complications at workplace, educational institutes and in daily communication.
