Student answer (Band 6.5)

Residing in a country where it is necessary to speak a foreign language can be challenging in social and professional life. I strongly agree with this statement because language is an integral part of communication.

Language barrier can cause several issues. It can limits your communication with locals so you can not talk with them properly. It is difficult to express you ideas and emotions. Eventually it leads to emotional stress and mental fatigue. It is very difficult for make friends who do not know your language. Therefore, you do not get a chance to fun and entertainment. For instance, my friend Jabbar went to Germany for the higher education. He did not know the German language as a result he failed to make a social circle . So he returned to home due to depression and loneliness.

There are also numerous practical drawbacks to live abroad and do not know the language of that country. A person may lose many business and employment opportunities due to language barrier. A company would prefer a employee who know local language . A business man would not do business where he find inconvenience in communication. If a person can not communicate with his colleagues on work it will reduce coordination which can leads to decrease in productivity. For example, two years ago I went to Dubai for employment. I lose many job opportunities due to Arabic language which i did not know.

I conclude that language barrier can create many social and practical problems if you are living abroad. So it is necessary to learn the language of country where you live.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0

You have clearly addressed the prompt by agreeing with the statement and providing both social and practical arguments. Your position is consistent throughout the essay. You support your ideas with relevant examples, such as the experience of your friend in Germany and your own experience in Dubai. To improve, you could expand on the 'social problems' section by discussing the psychological impact of isolation in more depth, rather than listing points. The ideas are relevant, but some development is slightly brief. Overall, you have fulfilled the requirements of the task well.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0

The essay is logically organized into clear paragraphs, with an introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion. You use basic cohesive devices like 'For instance', 'Therefore', and 'In conclusion' to link ideas. However, the flow between sentences is sometimes a bit mechanical, and the use of cohesive devices could be more varied to improve the natural progression of your arguments. For example, the transition between the social and practical paragraphs could be smoother. Overall, the structure is clear and easy to follow, which is a strength.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

You have an adequate range of vocabulary to discuss the topic, using terms like 'integral part', 'mental fatigue', and 'productivity'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'do not get a chance to fun' (should be 'have fun') and 'returned to home' (should be 'returned home'). You also repeat 'language barrier' and 'communication' frequently. To reach a higher band, try to incorporate more precise synonyms and collocations to avoid repetition and demonstrate a more sophisticated control of language.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent errors in grammar and punctuation that occasionally hinder the flow. Common issues include subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'It can limits', 'a employee who know'), article usage (e.g., 'a business man'), and verb tense consistency (e.g., 'I lose many job opportunities' instead of 'I lost'). While these errors do not prevent the reader from understanding your meaning, they are frequent enough to impact the overall accuracy. Focusing on proofreading for basic grammatical rules would significantly improve your score.
