Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response addresses the prompt but struggles with clarity and logical development. The introduction is confusing, as it seems to argue that speaking a foreign language does not cause problems, while the body paragraphs attempt to discuss both the benefits of language learning and the potential loss of cultural identity. The position is not consistently maintained throughout the essay. While the prompt asks about the social and practical problems of living in a foreign-language environment, the essay shifts focus to the general importance of English and the preservation of one's native culture. The ideas are present but lack the necessary depth and focus required for a higher band score.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay is organized into paragraphs, but the logical progression is frequently interrupted by unclear phrasing and awkward transitions. For example, the transition 'On the one hand' is used twice, but the second paragraph does not logically contrast with the first in a way that supports a clear argument. Referencing is often problematic, such as in the phrase 'if you would not be able to understand the your language', which makes the connection between ideas difficult to follow. While there is an attempt to use cohesive devices, they are often used mechanically or incorrectly, which hinders the overall flow of the argument.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is limited and often imprecise, which occasionally impedes communication. There are frequent errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'getting hire' instead of 'getting hired', 'end up distinct it' instead of 'end up extinct', and 'lost of your own languages' instead of 'loss of your own language'. The student relies on basic vocabulary and struggles to express more complex ideas accurately. To improve, the student needs to focus on learning common collocations and ensuring that words are used in the correct grammatical context to convey meaning more effectively.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The essay contains a high frequency of grammatical errors that often make the text difficult to parse. There are persistent issues with subject-verb agreement, article usage, and sentence structure. For instance, 'As we have seem several Multi-national company come here' contains multiple errors in tense and pluralization. Many sentences are fragmented or lack the necessary structure to be grammatically sound. While there is an attempt to use complex sentences, these are frequently faulty, leading to a lack of clarity. The student needs to focus on mastering basic sentence construction before attempting more complex grammatical structures.
