Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The essay addresses the prompt by discussing both social and practical problems associated with living in a foreign-language environment. However, the development of ideas is somewhat superficial. While you mention employment and education, the arguments lack depth and specific analysis. For instance, the example regarding Korea is slightly confusing, as it suggests the language barrier is a problem but then highlights a visa policy that mitigates it. To reach a higher band, you should ensure that your examples directly support your main points rather than introducing contradictory information. The position is clear, but the supporting arguments need more logical expansion to fully satisfy the requirements of the task.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or inaccurate. For example, the transition 'Despite that' is used incorrectly to introduce a new point, and the punctuation around connectors is inconsistent. Referencing is sometimes unclear, such as in the second paragraph where the link between the Korean visa policy and the broader argument about social problems is weak. Improving the flow between sentences and using a wider variety of linking words more naturally would significantly enhance the coherence of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
Your vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, but it lacks the precision and range required for higher bands. You rely on basic phrasing, such as 'people often feel trouble' or 'facilitate themselves', which are not natural collocations. There are also some word-choice errors, such as 'feet helpless' (instead of 'feel') and 'non native language' (which should be hyphenated). To improve, focus on learning topic-specific collocations related to migration, linguistics, and socio-economic challenges, and work on using more sophisticated vocabulary to express your ideas with greater clarity and impact.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede the flow. Common issues include subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'they offers', 'they also benefits'), article usage (e.g., 'speaking foreign language'), and awkward phrasing. Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with spacing around commas and periods. While the meaning is generally understandable, the high frequency of errors prevents the essay from reaching a higher band. Focusing on basic sentence construction and proofreading for subject-verb agreement and article usage will help improve your accuracy.
