Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, reaching only 93 words. Consequently, the task is not addressed in sufficient detail. While you state your position clearly in the introduction, the ideas are severely underdeveloped. You mention that learning a language improves communication and confidence, but you do not provide specific examples or elaborate on the 'social' or 'practical' problems mentioned in the prompt. To improve, you must expand your arguments with supporting evidence and ensure you meet the length requirement to allow for a full exploration of the topic.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay lacks a clear structure. While there is a basic attempt at an introduction and a body paragraph, the lack of length prevents the development of a logical progression of ideas. Cohesive devices are very limited; you use 'To initiate with' to start the paragraph, but the internal flow is disjointed. The sentences are repetitive in their structure, which hinders the overall coherence. To improve, you should use a wider variety of linking words (e.g., 'furthermore', 'consequently', 'in contrast') and ensure each paragraph has a clear topic sentence followed by supporting details.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is basic and repetitive. You use simple terms like 'good thing' and 'problem' repeatedly. There are also issues with word choice and collocation, such as 'leaning a new foreign language and use to other country', which is grammatically and lexically awkward. The range of vocabulary is insufficient to demonstrate the flexibility required for higher bands. To improve, focus on learning topic-specific collocations related to migration, language acquisition, and social integration, and try to avoid repeating the same words within the same paragraph.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. There are issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'if a person learn'), tense consistency, and sentence construction (e.g., 'it also help them'). The range of structures is very limited, consisting mostly of simple sentences. There is a lack of complex sentence structures, which are necessary to achieve a higher band score. You should focus on mastering basic sentence construction, including correct verb forms and punctuation, before attempting more complex grammatical structures.
