Student answer (Band 6.5)
Nowadays, many people move to foreign countries to pursue higher education, better employment opportunities or an improved quality of life. However, living in a country where people speak a different language can create both social and practical challenges. I completly agree with this statement because language barriers often make communication and daily life more difficult.
Firstly, Speaking a foreign language can lead to sevaral social problems. People who cannot communicate effectively may find it difficult to make friends, participate in community activities or build strong relationships with local residents. As a result, they may experience loneliness. For instance, many international students struggle to interact confidently with their classmates when they first arrive in a new country.
In addition to social difficulties, language differences can also create practical challenges. People may face problems while visiting hospitals, attending job interviews or completing official documents. Misunderstandings can easily occur if they are unable to understand important information. Consequently, these situations may increase stress and reduce their confidence in everyday life.
However, I believe these difficulties are usually temporary. With regular practice, language classes and modern translation applications, most people can gradually improve their communication skills. Moreover, many countries now provide language support programmes to help immigrants adapt to their new environment more quickly.
In conclusion, I strongly agree that living in a foreign-language country can cause both social and practical problems. Nevertheless, these challenges can be overcome through continuous learning, determination and support from the local community, allowing people to enjoy a successful and fulfilling life abroad.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response addresses all parts of the prompt, clearly stating a position in the introduction and maintaining it throughout. The ideas regarding social and practical challenges are relevant and well-supported with examples such as international students and job interviews. The essay is well-developed, and the inclusion of a counter-argument in the fourth paragraph adds depth to the discussion, demonstrating a balanced approach. The conclusion effectively summarizes the main points and reinforces the initial stance. The response is fully focused on the task requirements.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is logically organized with a clear progression of ideas. Each paragraph has a central theme, and the transition between paragraphs is smooth, using cohesive devices like 'Firstly', 'In addition to', and 'However' effectively. The referencing is clear, and the paragraphing is appropriate for the structure of an argumentative essay. The flow of information is natural, and the reader can easily follow the writer's line of reasoning from the introduction to the conclusion.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is sufficient and appropriate for the task. The writer uses a range of topic-specific vocabulary such as 'language barriers', 'community activities', and 'official documents'. While the range is adequate, it lacks some of the more sophisticated or idiomatic expressions that would characterize a higher band. There are a few minor spelling errors, such as 'completly' and 'sevaral', which are occasional slips rather than systematic issues. Overall, the lexical control is good and communication is never impeded.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The essay demonstrates a good mix of simple and complex sentence structures. Most sentences are error-free, and the grammar is generally accurate. There is good control over punctuation and sentence construction. While the range of structures is solid, it could be further enhanced by incorporating more varied complex grammatical forms, such as conditional clauses or passive voice, to demonstrate greater flexibility. However, the existing errors are rare and do not interfere with the clarity of the message.
