Student answer (Band 6.5)
It is undeniable that living in a foreign country where one must communicate in a completely different language presents unique challenges. In this regards, this situation leads to severe practical and social complications for immigrants. I agree to a large extent with this notion due to many reasons which will be outline in forthcoming fragments with logical conclusion.
To commence with, firstly, the local language severely disrupts daily life and survival. Moreover, basic necessities such as securing accommodation, opening a bank account, and navigating the healthcare system become monumental tasks when one cannot understand or fill out official forms. Secondly, professional growth is heavily restricted. Competent individuals are frequently forced into underemployment roles beneath their qualifications. For example, many immigrant doctors or engineers initially work in retail or food services while struggling to pass local language proficiency examinations.
Moreover, language deficits cause profound emotional and communal friction . To elaborate, on an individual level, the inability to express thoughts, humor or emotions naturally leads to isolation, loneliness, and severe mental distress. However, lack of shared language prevents genuine integration between immigrants and local residents. This division often creates insular ethnic enclaves where foreigners stick together, inadvertently fostering mistrust, prejudice, and social fragments within the host country. To illustrate, without a common tongue, cultural misunderstandings can easily escalate into community-wide tensions.
To conclude, relying on a foreign language in daily life creates immense hurdles. It generates immediate practical obstacles in employment and administration, while simultaneously causing deep social alienation and community division. Therefore, mastering the host country's language is absolutely essential to mitigate these severe hardships.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response fully addresses all parts of the prompt. You have clearly stated your position in the introduction and maintained it throughout the essay. The practical and social aspects are well-developed with relevant examples, such as the mention of immigrant doctors working in retail and the formation of ethnic enclaves. The ideas are extended logically, providing a balanced view of both the individual and societal consequences of language barriers. The conclusion effectively synthesizes the main points, reinforcing your stance. To reach a higher band, ensure that your introduction avoids meta-commentary like 'which will be outline in forthcoming fragments', as this is unnecessary and slightly unnatural in an academic context.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is logically organized with a clear progression of ideas. Each paragraph has a central theme, and the transition between the practical challenges in the second paragraph and the social/emotional challenges in the third is smooth. You use a range of cohesive devices effectively, such as 'To commence with', 'Moreover', and 'To illustrate'. The paragraphing is appropriate, and the referencing is clear throughout. The flow is natural, and the reader is guided through your argument without difficulty. The structure is coherent, and the use of linking words is generally precise and contributes to the overall clarity of the response.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate a good range of vocabulary, including sophisticated terms like 'monumental tasks', 'underemployment', 'profound emotional and communal friction', and 'insular ethnic enclaves'. These choices are precise and appropriate for the academic tone of the task. There are no significant errors in word choice or collocation that impede communication. While the vocabulary is strong, incorporating a few more idiomatic or less common collocations could elevate the response further. Overall, the lexical range is sufficient to convey your ideas with precision and flexibility, meeting the requirements for a high band score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The essay displays a good variety of complex sentence structures, such as the use of participial phrases ('while struggling to pass...') and conditional-like constructions. The majority of your sentences are error-free, and your control over punctuation is generally good. There are minor slips, such as 'In this regards' (should be 'In this regard') and 'will be outline' (should be 'will be outlined'), but these are infrequent and do not interfere with the clarity of your message. Your grammar is consistent and supports the development of your arguments effectively throughout the text.
