Student answer (Band 5.5)

It is widely believed that people face a serious problem whenever they have to speak a foreign language in their living country. Although, speaking foreign language foosters more oppotunities for people, I completely agree with the view that it causes dangerous problems such as social and practical life.

There are a variety of reasons why I believe that speaking an overseas language is a quiet difficult in any country. One possible reason is that people can't communicate with others properly. This is because most of the people of their country speak with mother tongue, they don't love to learn other language as a cummunication method. As a result, the people who want to communicate with others by a foreign language can not able to make good social bonds which leads them a isolated life. For example, an english man is visiting a country and speaking with his own language so that he can connect with others, however it is not possble becacuse the country's people can not able to understand his language properly.

In addition, another issue of speaking a foreign language in living country is mobility. Every country's people use their own language for daily purposes. They don'y relay on a foreign language for communicating with others. When a foreigner wants to use transports such as bus, train and lunch, they can not deliver their speech properly with the drivers. By using overseas language in that country, they not only reduce the negotiation powers but also make their every life more harder. Thus, using foreign will not help them to stay longer time in a county, so they have to learn the country's native language.

In conclusion, while learning and speaking a foreign language provides people more career prospects, I firmly believe that it can bring chellenging social problems and practical problems.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses the prompt and maintains a clear position throughout. The ideas regarding communication barriers and mobility issues are relevant, though they are somewhat repetitive and could be more deeply developed. For instance, the example of the English man is a bit simplistic and does not fully explore the 'social problems' mentioned in the prompt. While the position is consistent, the arguments lack the depth required for a higher band, as the focus remains on basic communication difficulties rather than broader social integration or cultural challenges. The conclusion effectively restates the position, but the overall development of ideas remains somewhat superficial.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organised into logical paragraphs, each with a clear central topic. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'In addition', 'For example', and 'Thus', which help guide the reader. However, some of these transitions feel mechanical, and there are instances where the flow is interrupted by awkward phrasing, such as 'This is because most of the people of their country speak with mother tongue'. Referencing is generally clear, but the progression of ideas within paragraphs could be smoother. The paragraphing is appropriate, but the overall structure would benefit from more sophisticated linking between sentences to improve the flow of arguments.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The range of vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks precision and sophistication. There are several spelling errors, such as 'foosters', 'oppotunities', 'cummunication', 'possble', and 'becacuse'. Additionally, word choice is often imprecise, such as 'living country' instead of 'host country' or 'foreign country', and 'lunch' used in the context of transport. The student relies on basic vocabulary and struggles with collocations, such as 'make their every life more harder'. While the meaning is generally clear, the frequent errors and limited range of vocabulary prevent the essay from reaching a higher band.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors throughout. Common issues include subject-verb agreement, such as 'most of the people... speak with mother tongue', and incorrect verb forms, such as 'can not able to'. Punctuation is generally functional, but there are errors in sentence construction that occasionally impede readability. While the student attempts complex sentences, they are often faulty, such as 'By using overseas language in that country, they not only reduce the negotiation powers but also make their every life more harder'. These persistent errors indicate a lack of control over more complex grammatical structures.
